Speaker 1:

Mr Eric Almighty and Phil the Filipino. Yeah, they've got you covered. And all you gotta do is wait for it.

Speaker 2:

This is the Wait For it Podcast. Hey, everyone, welcome back to the Wait For it Podcast. I am your co-host, phil Smith, aka Phil the Filipino, and joining me, as always, is your other co-host, mr Eric Almighty. And Eric. Wow, we're already to the month of August, which means this is the eighth iteration of the year of Late to the Party and you know it's been kind of all over the place when it comes to some of these films. We've watched some movies that are strictly memes when it comes to when it when it came to real steel and lego ninjago, which, at a quick glance, got a lot of downloads. So we didn't hear from like lego ninjago fans, but you guys liked the episode. So thank you for that, as always.

Speaker 2:

But, eric, for the month of august we are returning to what is considered a classic. I think whenever people bring up kind of the golden era of, like the 80s, 90s action film, top Gun is near the top of that heap all the time. I mean, I would go as far as saying like this is definitely one of those movies where people are like you never seen Top Gun. Like what do you mean? You've never seen it. And so we committed to both Top Gun and Top Gun Maverick here this month and, eric, you know I'm very excited to have this conversation. I actually was really excited to watch these movies, so I watched them like weeks ago, so I don't know when you checked them out, but I'm very excited to talk about these two films that are very, very highly regarded, huge fan bases and obviously huge when it comes to nostalgia.

Speaker 1:

I think we actually took a reverse approach than normal for this. I did the typical Phil thing, which was to watch it in the last 24 to 48 hours. So everything is fresh on my mind. Phil did my role, which is watch it weeks in advance and then, leading up to the episode, oh shit, what happened, like what was the movie about?

Speaker 1:

But Top Gun is one of those movies that like kind of explains itself and, phil, I think that's why we never really got into Top Gun in any way. It just you kind of know off of face value what the movie is gonna be At least you think you do and you make a judgment call. And I think we've made that judgment call up until recently. And, phil, I know for me, I think the same for you. The talk about Top Gun Maverick definitely brought that conversation forward and is a movie that's been on our radar since it came out and it was nominated for Academy Awards. So a movie that came out of nowhere, at least in peripherals, and I think that this is going to be a great conversation for both the original and the film from just about two years ago.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so buckle up. It's going to be a fun conversation and I'm sure this is going to draw in a lot of people that, again, are big time fans of this franchise, as well as the people that you know. This brings on a whole lot of nostalgia. I think you guys will enjoy this conversation. So, franchise as well as new to the people that you know, this brings on a whole lot of nostalgia. I think you guys will enjoy this conversation. So, whether you are new or you're a returning listener, we thank you so much for joining us and make sure to stick around to the end of the episode. We'll let you know where you can find all the rest of our content. But, eric, we are going to start all the way back in the year of 1986.

Speaker 2:

The original top gun, uh, directed by Tony Scott, of course, starring Tom Cruise, kelly McGillis, val Kilmer, anthony Edwards. The letterbox synopsis for Lieutenant Pete Maverick Mitchell and his friend and co-pilot, nick Goose Bradshaw. Being accepted into an elite training school for fighter pilots is a dream come true, but a tragedy as well as personal demons will threaten pete's dreams of becoming an ace pilot. And, eric, I told you I wanted to jump into this right away when it comes to this movie. Chop gun 1986 is one of the gayest films I have ever watched in my entire life and I love it for that. It's fantastic. You will never be able to convince me that Maverick's love of his life is Charlie it is.

Speaker 2:

Goose. This is a love story between Maverick and Goose and it leans into it and I love the bromance of this. I I ate this shit up, man. And again, I think, when you think of like films from this time period and some of the reviews pointed out, like, how many times within a like five minute plan, a five minute span, can you play the same song over and over again? Not Danger Zone, but the other one. What song? Take my Breath Away?

Speaker 1:

Take my Breath Away. And they were. They were doing this thing in movies that I really don't like, which is when the music completely gets drowned out by the dialogue, so it's not like playing subtly and then increases. It's so loud they would stop the song, do the dialogue and then da-da-da-da-da.

Speaker 2:

Play the song again.

Speaker 1:

Da-da Da-da it kept happening song, do the dialogue and then da da da, da, da, da, da, da da it kept happening.

Speaker 2:

I was, I had to like, I was confused, I was like, did I accidentally rewind the movie? But honestly, you could replace the scenes with with Maverick and Charlie and put Goose in there and I think it would work even better. But again, and that's what a lot of these comments say, as far as is, uh, first, the very top comment on letterbox not just sort of gay, but actually one of the gayest movies I think I've ever seen. Take my breath away. Playing four times within a 20 minute window is truly unhinged shit. I fuck with it, man. Some of these this so um, may offer my scientific assessment not gay enough. Uh, that's one of the reviews.

Speaker 1:

I I actually really fuck with that last comment, cause like I guess I could see why you said that and like now that you're saying it, yeah, kind of gay, but like it definitely could have been gayer. I've also seen like Challengers this year in the year 2024.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Very, very gay. So and Zendaya's in it so like how, but it is what it is. I don't know. That is just very funny. But the music part of it, phil, one of the topics I wanted to discuss about Top Gun it's so funny. We're starting off the episode this way because I, should be noted, very much enjoyed this movie, but it was very much in a time capsule from cinematography to its soundtrack.

Speaker 1:

And you know, they got the rights to Danger Zone and Take my Brother Away and they were like we're going to fucking milk. We're going to milk this thing, baby.

Speaker 2:

Hey, there's no money left for any other music.

Speaker 1:

We got this and Great Balls of Fire Now we're going to talk about Great Balls of Fire in a little bit. I was genuinely shocked at how that song moved me, but yeah, they just had songs like that all over the place. This movie I know a lot of movies use music of the time or of the culture this one just was a little bit on the nose, a little bit too much. Not surprised in a Tom Cruise film, though, or in an eighties film, to kind of hear some of the choices. And it was probably the funniest part of the movie, because this movie is a vibe, phil, this movie is an absolute vibe. Again, we talked about time capsule, so eighties, so eighties.

Speaker 1:

I loved it for that reason, but it definitely, you know, led to some flaws. So when we get, we'll kind of criticize and talk about the movie. I'm sure you know top gun the first one I think we can all agree is not a perfect film and really doesn't lead to a real argument for a sequel, at least in theory. So I'm very curious to kind of touch that dialogue about that bridge from Top Gun to Maverick. But, phil, what did you think overall about the movie? We kind of talked a little bit about the main kind of takeaway that you had. But what did you think from an overall standpoint? Because I know we're going to give our score. Talk about Top Gun and probably the latter half of this episode will be about Maverick and that score.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, like you said, a total vibe. When I think of a 80s action film, you know I think of and I'm not sure, maybe this came out in the 90s, but you know I think of like Predator, I think of films like in that style of cinematography, and this is what I want. When people recommend like an old school film, you know what I mean and I know it's, we can't go throughout any episode without bringing up the shining right when people talk about classics and movies that they hold near and dear to their heart. This is what I want. This is a film that I want to be able to put on anytime.

Speaker 2:

Eric, you know you always talk about your grading scale where it's like, would you stop and watch it if it were on? And passing, like I could put this on in the background while I'm doing chores or whatever and like sit down. Every once I'm like, oh, here comes the take my breath away scene, here comes some of the awesome uh fun, you know fighter pilot scenes which are are great, you know, and I always was confused about Top Gun because I was like, is it all just footage of people flying in jets? Like that just doesn't seem very appealing to me. But this is a very much a like as we joked about it like a love story, not only between you know, maverick and Charlie, but also, you know, a brotherhood. You know, when it comes to Maverick and Goose.

Speaker 2:

And now I understand all of the. You know all of the Halloween costumes you know over the years, like, hey, I'm Maverick and you're Goose, and that friendship and that bond. So I'm typically I'm not sure how you are, Eric, I'm typically not a big fan of of the films. You know the military type films that are homages to you know, are to the, to the service. But this I enjoyed the hell of this and I get it now. I totally understand, and we'll talk about it here in a moment with Maverick. It does make me wish that I had seen this, you know, a while before so we could have experienced Maverick. You know, to kind of give you guys a little taste of the conversation to come possibly, but yeah, that's how I came away with it.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, 100%. This is a movie that you can absolutely watch on streaming. It's on Paramount+, so found a reason to use that membership for the first time possibly ever, and you know it was a good time. Maverick we will discuss Phil. I think we're, in this series, particularly Late to the Party.

Speaker 1:

We are running into movies that we just wish we saw in theaters, and we'll broach that topic definitely when we talk about Maverick Sticking with the first Top Gun, though, again just Tom Cruise, I mean charismatic guy, good looking guy. You got Val Kilmer, you got a lot of other people in the cast that do really, really well. Tom Cruise a little bit of a creep, you know, going into the girl's bathroom following her. That was odd, odd choice. He's also very dramatic, very sensitive. He doesn't like getting feedback, fucking drives away, almost gets them both in crashes. It was those type of things, though. That like made the movie unintentionally funny, which I think we've addressed a couple times here. To start the episode From a serious standpoint, I think this movie had very standard beats that it executes very well.

Speaker 1:

I don't think at any point the movie goes too far with them and that could be to its detriment. But Phil, again, because the movie is more going for like an aesthetic and a vibe I kind of like let a few things pass when it came to plot, story and some of the things that I typically criticize a movie for. This movie at no point did I feel I had to take too seriously. But that also didn't mean the stakes weren't necessarily high again. They may not have been all-time high stakes in the first Top Gun, but they were there and I at least appreciated that. It made me invest in a lot of the characters. You already mentioned the death of Goose, which is a big part of this. While I don't necessarily feel the full effect of that, that's a great example of, again, something that kept me on my toes with this film, not exactly knowing what I was in for, and for that reason alone again, it at least kept my attention for it's almost two hour runtime.

Speaker 2:

Did you know Goose died going into this?

Speaker 1:

I did not, but I figured there was a reason that someone looked just like him in Maverick, because I had seen Miles Teller, so yeah, I kind of put two and two together how he died. Did not see that coming.

Speaker 2:

No, no, definitely not I. I texted our friend erica because she's a big fan of the, this franchise, and I was like goose die. I texted phil into. I was like say psych, right now, please, like, this is gonna, this is gonna break him. Forget meg, ryan, tom tom cruise is gonna be. So yeah, did not see that coming.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it was very shocking, to say the least. But you know this movie film and again, I want to give Top Gun enough time in this episode and talk about it. But maybe you know if there's any other positives you want to bring up. Definitely do or take this as the opportunity to transition to criticisms this movie I think it's a great compliment to Maverick, not vice versa, like when we talk about Maverick.

Speaker 1:

There are so many things that happened in the first Top Gun. I genuinely appreciate it in Maverick as a standalone film, just like you mentioned. It's a movie that if you put it on and again you hear danger zone for the 50th time, uh, then that's, that's fun, uh. But this movie again is one of those ones You're kind of glad you see it. You understand why it's a classic to certain people, but you can also see how this movie is not someone's cup of tea, Uh, and from that standpoint again, I think this movie has a lot to offer. I think you should at least check it once. But I know for me, every time I talk about the first Top Gun, it gives me an itch to talk about Maverick.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that's a really good point, Like I could see a world in which Maverick came out first and then they released Top Gun as a prequel right, that's how we're seeing a lot of these films now, but it's just a very messy 1980s movie, and while I enjoy the hell out of it and I'm so glad that I have now seen it it will, like you said, it will lead to be yeah, but Maverick, though, is when they really perfected this, this formula.

Speaker 2:

So and then the fact that, like you said, it's a time capsule film. The Tom Cruise stuff is a little creepy with the bathroom stuff, but again, these are all things that just happened in that time. And as a military kid and a lot of you that are Navy brats, army brats, whatever you know that some of these people don't conduct themselves the best. So it is kind of a representation of how things used to be army rats, whatever, like you know that some of these people don't conduct themselves the best. So it is kind of a representation of like how things used to be and may sometimes be at some time. But it's just kind of a like an all over the place messy film. So there's not necessarily like major criticisms. I think that you could really give it that like are really going to. I think really like make anybody angry or frustrate them. It's just like man, what a fun movie.

Speaker 2:

But you know it is what it is, it will. It will sit there at the score that we probably both gave it, and that's fine. That's perfectly fine, maverick, though you guys should watch Maverick.

Speaker 1:

Again, I definitely think there's a theme here. So, phil, let's talk a little bit about the reception at Top Gun, where we stood on it, and then I would love to transition you into a conversation about Top Gun Maverick, which again was a movie. At least I understood that. Even Top Gun fans were like why are we getting this? And again, that was at least my perception of the landscape at that time. Correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe people were really excited for a top gun sequel. So many years later I just didn't see the need for it. And then, when you started hearing not only the praise but how it looked, how it went from start to finish, how it ended up getting nominated for academy awards, then all of a sudden you start to look at it a little differently and again it puts the shine on this first film for people who have never jumped into it, like us. So how was the reception to Top Gun, at least from a score perspective? And then we'll give ours.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. So on the Tomatometer, right now it has a 56% Tomatometer score and an 83% audience score. Now, remember, not Rotten Tomatoes, certainly not around in 1986. So I'm sure these critic reviews and the audience reviews have adjusted quite a bit over time. But that is where it sits on Rotten Tomatoes and and a 3.4 on Letterboxd which, eric, is exactly where I landed. A 3.5 on this movie because, again, to bring up your sliding scale, something I would certainly pay attention to if somebody had it on, and maybe you know what, throw it on on a fall day when you're doing chores and you're like you want to hear Danger Zone for 19 times and I'm not going to listen to the song, I want to hear Danger Zone specifically set to tom cruise and anthony edwards flying around in a jet. So, yeah, 3.5 for me. What about you?

Speaker 1:

yeah, absolutely. Uh, 3.5 is exactly where this movie sits, uh, which means I could understand if you have it ranked a little higher for nostalgia purposes. I can understand if you have it ranked a little lower, uh, because it's just not your vibe. But at the very least, I mean, even with a film like the shining hate to keep bringing it up. Sorry, uh, we'll give our patrons a shout out it'll never go away, but cory specific apology to you.

Speaker 1:

I know we hurt your heart every time. At least I understood, like the like, I don't want to give theining less than a two out of five Cause, like I understand, like cinematography, what it means to that genre it's a cult classic. So I think, even if this isn't your cup of tea, you'll at least be glad that you saw it and that you could form an opinion on it. For me, a three and a half is just absolutely perfect, phil. You know, talking about my sliding scale, it's not quite. I would go out of my way to show people. However, that caveat will come in play with Maverick, which is absolutely where I want to have that discussion, because this film came out just about two years ago I think 2022, if memory serves me right and I walked away from Top Gun Maverick after the first.

Speaker 1:

Top Gun was a lot of fun, not expecting much. I was like OK, what's going to be more of this? It was not, I would argue. Potentially a much different movie in so many different ways with some similarities, and I was blown away, a movie that I wish we had seen in theaters. The last movie I think we've actively voiced that was like interstellar. Uh, this is 100 on my list. If this movie was to come back out in theaters, I would highly consider going to check it out. Phil, what did you think about maverick, because this is our first time talking about both of these movies?

Speaker 2:

really quick. Do you want to do this at the end where we do the uh, is this better than, and the more like us section of imdb? Do you want to do this at the end where we do the uh, is this better than, and the more like us section of imdb? Do you want to hold off on that?

Speaker 1:

we'll do it for both. Uh, we'll do it for both films okay, cool, cool, cool.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, top gun maverick, um, like you said, uh well, let's go to a synopsis really quick. 2022, after more than 30 years of service as one of the navy's top aviators and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him, pete Maverick Mitchell finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen. Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghost of his past, maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it. And, like you, eric, when this movie was announced and you know when it came out, and you just kind of like throw it away. As you know, we've been talking about this a lot with the recent release of Deadpool and Wolverine, which both of us very much enjoyed. I just want to throw that out here before people come for us again.

Speaker 2:

When you talk about nostalgia bait, this is what you mean when a movie gets a sequel 30 years down the road, right, a movie that is so beloved. And if there was never another Top Gun, I think you could ask Top Gun fans, like you kind of alluded to Eric and say they'd be fine with that. The issue is, we're in this era now where everything needs to be either revisited or, whether that be a sequel or a prequel or whatever it is, we're seeing that this is not particularly a Marvel problem. This is just a problem in general. So this movie comes and goes and then, like you said, it's getting these crazy reviews and this insane praise by both new fans and old fans and you know it just kind of came and went. And then you know, obviously now with this series, we're like OK, you know what, let's check this out. And Eric Maverick surpasses the original in every single way.

Speaker 2:

I think this is probably what they had in mind when they wanted when they re-released Independence Day right after 30 years. This is what you want, like when you're talking about touching on nostalgia but also advancing the story. This is the blueprint for that like this is an incredible film, down to you know, obviously, introducing these new characters and bringing back the old characters, like Eric. I got very and I watched these back to back, but I got like emotional watching Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer interact, even though I it hadn't been 30 years for me, right, it'd been 15 minutes, since I saw them interact in the original Top Gun and I was like man, I bet you this was so great for fans of this franchise to come in and and they pay that homage to to him.

Speaker 2:

And obviously Val Kilmer has the the health issues that he has now, so you know, that kind of limits his performance, but probably seeing those two together and then coupling it with the new characters which we'll touch on in a moment. I want to talk about the legacy characters first, but it bummed me out One, like you said, wish we had seen this in theaters, but also that when you miss out on that type of nostalgia, like man, I bet this was really cool to see for the first time.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and we're going to talk freely about the films as well, if you haven't already picked that up. But I mean, if you've watched Top Gun, you've seen Maverick more than likely. Or if you want to see Maverick, you should probably not listen to this episode at all because we just spoiled Top Gun. But one of the things I'll say, phil, is that I agree with you on some of the emotional connections. The first movie doesn't quite take us there for everything, even with Goose's death, I hurt, but it wasn't emotional hurt, it was like God, that sucks. That's a shitty way to go out.

Speaker 1:

I understand what they're doing with the story. I get it From the beginning of the movie. Especially when we bring in Miles Teller's rooster and we hear great balls of fire of the movie. Especially when we bring in Miles Teller's rooster and we hear Great Balls of Fire on the piano, my mouth just dropped. I was like my heart no, and Tom Cruise just kind of watching it and reminiscing that got to me. And at the beginning of the movie I was like oh no, top Gun actually worked, because it had to work. For me to feel like this and for a movie I gave a three and a half, I just didn't think that movie had that type of heart. But that movie allows this movie to have the heart that it's selling to you as far as a viewer and I really bought in. From that moment, phil, I was like all right, I fuck with these characters. I get the lore. We get to meet Penny, who's the Admiral's daughter that's brought up just very like offhandedly brought up.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Multiple times in the first one and she happens to be like a core character here. I love that. It was just really a good time, it was so much fun. But, yeah, I just did not see that emotional aspect coming into play at all and it was littered throughout the film A lot of the times when Tom Cruise is talking, you can tell again where I felt the death of goose wasn't fully explored.

Speaker 1:

I think they made that up in this film because you can see anytime he's talking to these recruits, this Top Gun group, he's like how are you going to explain that to someone at their funeral? And I felt like the dialogue in those moments was really strong when they're making the plan, with Jon Hamm's character, who's an asshole Cyclone, I believe was his name, his wing name. But I thought that was also interesting because he was like yeah, I want to get them from point A to point B and I also want them to come home, and it's almost like something doesn't click where. It's like, oh, I probably should have thought of that, right, Like, and he's just so genuine at least his character is. And I felt that character growth in Maverick that I didn't really feel at all in Top Gun. So that was just nice from a story arc perspective. I really felt like the payoff came in Maverick that I guess I was assuming would come at the end of Top Gun.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, no, that makes total sense. I will say just to kind of shout out, to backtrack a little bit, to shout out Kelly McGillis, who was Charlie in the original Top Gun. She's, she's fantastic also as in her role. And you know, she was asked about if she was ever asked to return to Maverick and she said she never was and it's likely because of her age and her build. And we're not going to act like ageism and doesn't exist in Hollywood. You know, and Jennifer Connelly comes in and that is a little bit of a bummer that she, you know that she wasn't in this film, but I very much really enjoyed Jennifer Connelly's character, like you, like you talked about.

Speaker 2:

What I thought about was while you were discussing this and you know, while I also brought up, you know, nostalgia bait and all that Bringing that. You know they brought in just enough of the nostalgia like, hey, remember, you know this is, you know Miles Teller, he's Goose's kid. And you know Miles Teller, he's Goose's kid. And you know, showing the scene in the in the um, not a bar, but you know, when they were at the piano it's like just enough where it's like, oh man, what a, what a great time in this franchise. What is what a really sweet scene that was. And in Val Kilmer, right, bringing back that character as well.

Speaker 2:

It, when you bring back these characters and you give acknowledgments to them and nods and give them their moment like it's. It's when it's done like that it just made. It just bums me out even more about. When it comes to Jurassic World, dominion, right, like we know, ellie Sattler, ian Malcolm, alan Grant these are iconic characters. We love them, but then they're thrown into this large group in dominion and they are. They largely don't do anything. There's too many of these characters.

Speaker 2:

And again, when it comes to nostalgia and bringing a film to modern day and doing it correctly like this is everything that you want now. Granted, jurassic world had had three films and this is only the second film. We are getting a third top gun down the road. But, um, yeah, it was fantastic. And, eric, it certainly didn't hurt that our boy, the Glenissance Glenn Powell, was in this movie and he's not obviously the focus of this film, but he's awesome. So, more Glenn Powell. And it seems like he has confirmed that there is a Top Gun 3 date in the works that will be revealed soon. But, hey, more Glenn Powell in 2024. It's certainly not a bad thing.

Speaker 1:

No, not at all, and Phil knows I just recently watched Obviously we talked about Twisters obnoxiously Love that film, one of my favorites of the year. And the other one of my favorites in my top five is hit man. Loved, loved that movie. That was so much fun. Uh, phil, I get it Like I don't know if I would have felt this way seeing this movie. I feel like I would have, just not to the level I know it now. But it's just something about Glenn Powell, dude, he's just got that star factor. Uh, again we're we're speaking freely about the film. He saves the day at the end. Like Glenn Powell saving the day, dude.

Speaker 2:

Nothing could have ended that movie better, as he typically does, and I knew it was coming.

Speaker 1:

The moment he was named a spare, I was like, oh, I don't know how we're going to get from point A to point B, but he's going to be a major factor in the end and I'm so glad I stuck with that gut feeling and the payoff was there. We're definitely going to talk about what a top gun maverick, a top gun 3, looks like, but for top gun maverick film, I do agree with your sentiments that like it's kind of crazy to see movies like this in twister work so well, so far from the originals. And again, I'm one of those proponents that a remake is okay. But depending on the circumstances, there are so many movies that do not need to be remade that we do not need to touch. Train to busan is perfect and we make fun of the fact that there's probably I don't know if it's still happening gonna be an american version of that movie. There are many movies that can fit that example train Train to Busan, the first one that comes into my head on probably better examples.

Speaker 1:

But I think, phil, this movie proves that remakes and sequels, and like elongated sequels, can be done for more than just a nostalgia pop, and I think that's super important when it comes to films like this because from a cinematography standpoint and everything that came with the production of this film, I mean absolutely breathtaking. This is the type of movie that you do want to do behind the scenes looks into and I did. I pulled up some videos immediately after watching it and just getting to learn a little bit more about the choreography in the planes, the pilot licensing and all the work that had to come into play was very, very gratifying and I highly recommend you check out. If you've seen Maverick and you don't really know much of the backstory, but a lot of what we see Phil feeling so real it just bleeds through the screen.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, the attention to detail has always, I think, been a strong point when it comes to both of the Top Gun films, obviously, with Maverick certainly coming out very, very recently. But yeah, man, just exactly what you want. When it comes to, actually, I think we figure this out, eric, when it comes, if you want your 1980s, 1990s, whatever revival to work, glenn Powell, he's two for two. He's not the star at Top Gun, maverick, but he's in Twisters, he's in Top Gun.

Speaker 2:

Come on man, it's not there we go. You know what I'm on board now? I'm on board with Glenn Powell Actually, speaking of Glenn Powell and also bringing up Jurassic Park earlier with that revival, he did like answer a question about whether or not he had been offered a role in the new Jurassic franchise, whatever that may be, and he said he had read the script and that it was awesome, which leads me to believe that it is not awesome and he did not want any part of it. So that's not good, not not a good sign not a great sign at all.

Speaker 1:

But you know, phil, this, this movie just screams cinema. You know that meme of martin scorsese where he's just like pure cinema. I, I know that movie, that that meme can describe so many movies, but it's the first one that came to mind you know I'm gonna look up.

Speaker 2:

I'm gonna look up. If you want to keep keep speaking, I'm going to look up. If Hideo Kojima reviewed this, hideo Kojima reviewed this back in 2022. I'm going to look it up. Oh my God.

Speaker 1:

So yeah, but I just think it's just, it's a staple in cinema. And then when you hear that how many awards it was nominated for, again you kind of like you kind of joke uh, we joke about it when we don't know what we're talking about like, oh yeah, top gun, how could that be nominated? But feel like it just makes a lot of sense. Before we get back to that point, I think you found something.

Speaker 2:

He saw it three times in theaters so he said tom and I are flying again. I knew imax was the way to go. I think I cried most. The third time I'll go again. So he may have seen it more than three times, but as of June 2022, he had seen it three times minimum. He has tweeted quite a bit about Top Gun and Top Gun Maverick. So, yeah, hideo Kojima approved.

Speaker 1:

That's crazy. But yeah, this movie, from what I'm looking at, I'm just doing a quick search. I meant to do this earlier, so apologies if it's wrong, but from what I'm seeing here, top Gun Maverick was nominated for things like Best Sound, best Visual Effects, best Film Editing for the Academy Awards, but also Phil, best Picture in 2022 or the 2023 awards. I think totally, totally deserving. And when we talk about ratings here in a little bit, I think my rating absolutely will be higher after I've rewatched it on a screen, because I think that's just the element of again. This is an example of a movie you have to see in theaters and that would have been my main go-to saying had we seen it when it came out. But I implore you guys to check this movie. Don't wait till then. It is so much fun, it is so good. Again, tug at the heartstrings more than I thought it would. Still pretty funny this time, less intentionally so or more intentionally so than the first one, which was kind of like funny because of the times. Uh, but, phil, I do want to talk to you really quickly about before we get into ratings and stuff the arc in which this movie takes the story I also thought worked out better. So you know I'm a pretty big plot story guy where the first one just felt like stuff was kind of happening. They're kind of at Top Gun, then they graduate, then they happen to have a mission Like the mission was at the core of what was happening in the trajectory of the movie.

Speaker 1:

So when you get to that third act, which is wild, a wild, wild third act, I was having such a good time and then I was wondering, phil, like how they're going to get goose, they're going to get rooster and Maverick in the same like cockpit, and the way they did that I thought was just very it was kind of funny but also very creative, like the way that you had that suspense being built, like I bought into it that whole third act. I was like I don't know where we're going with this. I want to see what happens. All I know is Glenn Powell is going to save the day, but how we get there? No clue. And I thought that was just a shout out I wanted to make. From a film perspective Again, I think this movie doesn't go all the way up to the levels it could, but unlike Top Gun, I think it goes pretty high.

Speaker 2:

And I think it goes very, very well in the territories of films that I like. I agree. And to bring back in my friend, Erica, who I was texting when watching this and she pointed out like yeah, the third act is my favorite out of a lot of films and yeah, definitely didn't see any of that coming. Like you just think that they're just going to stay in the planes the whole time. Like maybe there'll be like a little chase sequence and they'll have to get and there is that. There, definitely is that. But like to see tom cruise and miles teller go on a reconnaissance mission through the woods to steal a jet, like are you fucking kidding me? Like how awesome, like that's so cool, that's what I want out of my movies. Just do that. All. Make that the whole of of, uh, top gun 3 I don't know how to just add Glenn Powell into it and I'm I'm sold, like when you take them out of the like, taking them out of the training facility and then, obviously, into the planes and then taking them out of the jets and like on the ground. I did not expect to see any of that. It's like it was like uh, what are those games that came? Oh, ace Combat, like if Ace Combat back in the day had a reconnaissance like like, uh, um, sneaking mission in one of their games. You're like what the hell is happening here? This should not work, but it 100 did.

Speaker 2:

And and I do agree, you know, I think there are some things that prevent it from being like maybe one of those all-time classics, but it's. It's up there in terms of just action movies that I've seen recently. And and eric, I keep forgetting to tell you to do this, to make a letterbox list of your late to the parties, which I have done. So you need to go ahead and do that so we can also discuss about that. Those rankings I'll tell you where it ranks all time in terms of late to the parties here when we get to two grades. But yeah, in terms of story, worked out much better because they were all working towards this specific goal. And you know, worked out much better because they were all working towards this specific goal. And you know, sidelining Glenn Powell is brilliant to bring him back in like so good, and there's just so many good things we can say about this.

Speaker 1:

But the finale really brought it to that next level for sure. Yeah, 100 percent. And, phil, before we talk about kind of what we would expect from maybe a third Top Gun, we're also going to as we do and Phil has been reminding me each time I need to get better about that we're going to also do a more like this kind of like minigame from IMDB. Phil, let's talk a little bit about the reception in Maverick, what our scores are, and then we'll kind of, we'll take it away into potential sequels and that minigame Really quick, you said it and then we'll kind of, uh, we'll take it away into potential sequels and that minigame really quick.

Speaker 2:

You said it was nominated in 2022.

Speaker 2:

I don't, I guess I guess for 2023 technically, because oh okay, got it, got it, okay yeah because it was funny that 2022 came up again, because that was on jeopardy, where coda won, and I was like, how did coda beat out this? But 2023 was the everything everywhere all at once year. So yeah, that's uh, that's a tough pull for top gun maverick. So obviously both outstanding. But yeah, and when it comes to top gun maverick and I thought I had this up already for rotten tomatoes, but I don't not top gun mavericks, let's see rotten tomato, so let's see here. All right, right, top Gun Maverick.

Speaker 2:

As far as Rotten Tomatoes go, it has a tomato meter score 96% certified fresh and a 99% audience score. When it comes to the letterbox grade, it has a even 4.0 as far as letterbox scores. And that's where I landed as well Four out of five. And, like you said, eric, when I watch watch this again that's probably going to go up to a 4.5. They're 100 going to re-release this thing, probably in some sort of back-to-back feature in theaters, whether that be amc, imax or cinemark, and I'll 100 go see it. And, like you said, I think probably not having that theater experience is the only thing preventing it from being a 4.5, because I could totally see my score going up at the bare minimum, it's probably a 4.25, but you know we know how we feel about that.

Speaker 1:

You got to, you got to make hard choices, and that's a hard choice. I had to make, cause again, the decimal systems. We try to stay true to letterbox, since that's what we're using and that's what we've based our scaling off of. So, yeah, I fell in the same spot. I couldn't quite give it a four and a half. It's a four and it's it's so, so damn good, it's only gonna go up. Uh, four and a half is absolutely within sights. I would love to see this in theaters. I don't know that I would go see the first top gun with it in theaters. I think I've got everything for come on.

Speaker 2:

Take my breath away in 4DX with the speakers blaring.

Speaker 1:

So listen, I won't go just for me. I won't go now you're convincing me. I won't go just for me. But what I will say is, when I give something a four, it's one of those things I want to bring somebody along for. And if I had the option because you kind of you have to I don't think you could watch maverick and enjoy it as much from an emotional or plot standpoint without knowing, like, who these characters are, who they're referencing. So you have to see the first top gun. Giving maverick a four kind of boosts up top gun a little bit, because, like, I would gladly watch the first top gun with somebody if it led them to watching maverick. So that's where the difference in scores comes, because Top Gun, the first one, is clearly not a four. For me, it's a clear three and a half. I don't see that going up over time and I don't want to rewatch that movie. I think I got everything out of it, minus the points Phil brought up which again will sit with me forever.

Speaker 2:

I will always think about the wind blowing through our hair, and then you just hear the way to the danger zone. The sheets are, the seats are shaking and popcorn's going everywhere come on oh no man. Maybe that's a five.

Speaker 1:

It might be a five out of five theater experience that 40x could change a lot, but I I do think this movie again I would absolutely see both. With somebody who hasn't seen them, I would bring them to a theater. And for Maverick it just has that edge up and I really think it will go up with a movie theater experience. Even now, the fact that it's only 0.5 above Top Gun kind of makes me mad. I kind of want to make it a four and a half, but again my heart's telling me it's right there, it's not quite there. So I'm going to round it down to four. But a four and a half is where I think it will end up. When everything is said and done. I don't think it's a perfect film. Again, I don't think it quite brings us everywhere we need to go. But, man, this movie, just a fuck ton of fun and such a good time. No clue what a third one of these looks like phil yeah, that is a interesting question, because I don't think.

Speaker 2:

Well, somebody made up a comment in one of the reviews here. It's like one of the only movies where tom cruise acknowledges that he's getting older, like that's the only time it's really ever happened. So are you bringing Maverick back? Because I this doesn't work without that relationship with him and Rooster. You know what I mean. And obviously now, with Glenn Powell being the big star that he is, they're going to want to bring him more into the forefront as well. So I don't want to see another classroom. You know another x amount of time in a classroom 45 minutes to an hour. That's not where you know. Another X amount of time in a classroom 45 minutes to an hour. That's not where you know. That's not where this thing excels. So that's a good question. Do you have any? What do you think? What are they? What are they going to do?

Speaker 1:

So me personally they never really resolved who would be the team leader between Hangman and Rooster, and I think Rooster, although he's playing you know he's Goose's son he's very much playing the Maverick role to Hangman playing the Iceman role.

Speaker 2:

And I like that I like that dynamic.

Speaker 1:

They didn't really explore that from a finality standpoint the way that the first one did. But I think, unlike the first one and I love Iceman and Maverick but they delved into their kind of relationship just a tad bit more I felt it a little bit more, especially when you get to the end there and Glenn Powell saving the day I feel like there's more there and I feel like Tom Cruise can be more now in that supporting role and, you know, just be there for the fact that he's Maverick. I think you can pass the baton if you choose to. But Tom Cruise is also making Mission Impossible movies left and right, which is maybe another movie we need to check out at this point Because, again, I know Tom Cruise had a big, big impact to the filming of this movie with his experience and everything like that.

Speaker 1:

So I would love to see and I've always heard good things about Mission Impossible in that same vein. But I think he'll be a big part of Top Gun as long as he's kicking and breathing, so you can't count anything out. But those are the two characters I'd like the focus to be on. I feel like, again, we didn't go all the way with Hangman no-transcript. So there's still so much more of their characters to explore.

Speaker 2:

Here's the tricky thing is, as represented with our scores and with a lot of people's scores and how they feel about this, there's such little wiggle room to make it as good or better and a whole lot of ways to fall down Right.

Speaker 2:

So again, to bring it back to my franchise, because we do this all the time, and you can even do this with Star Wars, jurassic World, like Upward Trajectory, uh, fallen Kingdom, uh-oh, dominion, mass Extinction, so the wiggle room is so small and obviously they're I mean, they're moving forward with it.

Speaker 2:

So, yeah, I mean and I've, I've talked about this, not so much on the podcast, but like I've never been a big Tom Cruise guy, but like I get it, man, I get it, especially after watching the original and watching these or watching Maverick. And without Tom Cruise we probably don't have Glenn Powell. So it's like, how much can you know? He gets a lot of credit for that, like Glenn Powell, and I think he has a couple of other. I think Miles Teller might be a like a Tom Cruise disciple, one of the like part of that group as well. So, and you can tell by the way they carry themselves and the way that they just present themselves in when they're doing any type of press or anything like that, like it's very much Tom Cruise, as you know, minus jumping on a couch on Oprah.

Speaker 1:

I was gonna say, given given all the the real life things about Tom Cruise, maybe disciple not the best word choice. That's true, Maybe maybe not.

Speaker 2:

That's my bad. A lot of these comments are a lot of these reviews. Are BRB signing up for science? Yeah?

Speaker 1:

no, it's glad I caught that so we can just address it right then and there.

Speaker 2:

I can't wait for whatever that website we use to crop our videos together, to put all that together.

Speaker 1:

Be great, Fantastic, Super, super awesome. The last thing I'll say about a sequel before we play our game at the end of this. The last thing I'll say about a sequel before we play our game at the end of this. Joseph Kaczynski is the director, Not familiar very much with his work. The one thing I'll say, Phil, is I think bringing him back would be key, Although you never know if this was kind of like that one hit wonder type thing, because other films that he had done and there's not many of them that he was in the director's chair for were Tron Legacy, which came out in 2010,.

Speaker 1:

Oblivion, which was that random movie that Tom Cruise was in, and really the only other. Totally forgot about Oblivion. Yeah, the only other big movie is this one. He also did Spiderhead in 2022, which was that Chris Hemsworth Miles Teller movie. I heard that was OK. So again, did they get lightning in a bottle here? I think a real argument could be made, but I'd like to see them bring him back in the director's chair, try to recapture that magic as much as possible with the cast.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, maybe it's dependent on a Tom Cruise team up, because Oblivion's got a seven on Letterboxd. That's not bad. I mean on Letterboxd that's not bad. I mean not Letterboxd, not IMDb. That's not terrible, but I certainly don't. It doesn't exist anywhere within pop culture. Let's see what it has on Letterboxd 3.1. So it's like that's not a movie we're ever going to watch Not me. Jack Harper is the most Tom Cruise character name I've ever heard in my entire life was it after they, harper?

Speaker 1:

was it after they? Uh, they asked him to stop doing the jack reacher movies.

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah, that's probably, why, yeah, and look at reacher. That's fun. That's finding a lot of uh, obviously a lot of fans on amazon prime. That's something we need to check out too. Um, yeah, I know, hashtag alan rickman is my uh rick. Uh is my batman, it's my first way.

Speaker 1:

All right, let's jump into our imdb game. So imdb recommends movies more like this in the app for imdb when you pull up a film. So for top gun film, we're gonna jump into a couple of movies this will be interesting, because I haven't seen a lot of these probably. A lot of these are Mission Impossible, which I know you have not seen, but I will go for the ones that I think you've seen, or you at least have heard of. Would you rather watch the original Top Gun, or?

Speaker 2:

Avatar. I would watch most things. I would watch. What's that movie we were just talking about? I'd watch that over Avatar.

Speaker 1:

Oblivion. All right, that's a little disrespectful. I would actually go Avatar here. I hate.

Speaker 2:

Avatar.

Speaker 1:

The first Top Gun. Okay, would you rather watch the original Top Gun or Jurassic Park?

Speaker 2:

Oh, jurassic Park, you know that scene. Yeah, I shouldn't have asked. I shouldn't have asked, shouldn't have bothered Would you rather watch the original Top Gun or Independence Day? Ooh, I got to go Independence Day because I'm a OG Will Smith guy. So Independence Day, yeah, it's also less creepy.

Speaker 1:

Startling lack of take my breath away though in independent startling um. And then the rest of these are like tom cruise films, so I'm gonna rattle them off and see if you've seen any, because I don't know what your, what your tom cruise filmography is. Yeah, uh, would you rather watch the original top gun or minority report?

Speaker 2:

oh, I like minority report. I also, um, this is also crazy that this is the second and third top gun. I mean, uh, tom cruise movie we did this year because of edgy tomorrow, I forgot about that. Uh, I probably, I probably go top gun, top gun, uh, jerry mcguire. Oh, jerry mcguire, absolutely jerry mcguire.

Speaker 1:

Yeah uh, and a few good men man those are.

Speaker 2:

You watch those for two totally different reasons. I guess it depends on the mood. If I want Tom Cruise beach volleyball, then I'm going Top Gun, but if I want courtroom drama, then, yeah, a Few Good Men.

Speaker 1:

Very different moods to be in.

Speaker 2:

for sure, I love how they replaced the volleyball with touch football in Maverick, I was like not gay enough, we need more. That's probably what kept it from being a 4.5, to be honest, and they had a girl in it.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, ew Gross All right.

Speaker 2:

Oh man, what a fun movie Coming unhinged, all right, oh man, what a fun movie.

Speaker 1:

Coming unhinged. All right, I think this episode is going on long enough. Number one.

Speaker 2:

she's a Number one.

Speaker 1:

What is it from? Stop and number three she's a girl. She's a girl. Oh yeah, You're going to have to play that. It's Sheen from Jimmy Neutron. One she's a female. Two, she's not a boy.

Speaker 2:

And three, and, most importantly, she's a girl.

Speaker 1:

All right, so for Top Gun Maverick, I know you have not seen the Wolf of Wall Street Criminal also might be a future episode of this series.

Speaker 2:

So would you rather watch Top Gun, maverick or Joker? Oh my God, those are also two very different vibes. I'm going to go Maverick, because Joker is a heavy watch. I did see it twice in theaters, which was a task, and I enjoy them both times. But it is a heavy, heavy film, so I'll go Maverick.

Speaker 1:

Alright. Would you rather watch Topka, maverick or Oppenheimer, son of a bitch? These?

Speaker 2:

are gonna be harder. I'm still gonna go Maverick, because Oppenheimer as a film is better, but Maverick is more fun. I haven't sat down and watched Oppenheimer since it came out or since we saw it in theaters, have you?

Speaker 1:

No.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

I probably. I probably will watch Maverick before I watch Oppenheimer Right, right.

Speaker 2:

So because we didn't, we didn't go watch like Oppenheimer and IMAX and we certainly could have, but we were like that was a great time, I don't know Not a great time. It was a very depressing film, but Barbenheimer itself was a great time and we just kind of left it there.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, honestly, I think we could do this full list here. Avengers.

Speaker 2:

Endgame. Oh, endgame. I'm sorry, yeah, I got to go. Endgame on that one, yeah. What about Inception. I think I might have to go Inception on that one. That's one of my favorite films ever. What about Gladiator? You're killing me here. You're killing me. I am going to go, maverick, for now, you know. Gladiator 2 Noblin Pal.

Speaker 1:

Who knows how that's going to go, but they got Denzel.

Speaker 2:

And they got Pedro.

Speaker 1:

I think Pedro's probably the other guy. Are we seeing Gladi? I think Pedro's probably the other guy. Are we seeing Claudia? Probably.

Speaker 2:

After Borderlands. To go from Maverick to Borderlands is going to be a.

Speaker 1:

Tough Might have to change my mind there. The Dark Knight.

Speaker 2:

Oh, the Dark Knight. Yeah, got to go to Dark Knight.

Speaker 1:

The Dark Knight Rises Maverick.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, gotta go to Dark Knight, the Dark Knight.

Speaker 1:

Rises Maverick, yeah, maverick, forrest Gump.

Speaker 2:

That is not the same.

Speaker 1:

All these other ones, I can say like okay that's fair this does not belong here At all. Some of these are jarring. That's why I'm going through them all Maverick because Jenny sucks. I think I know the answer to this one Interstellar.

Speaker 2:

Interstellar, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1:

Django Unchained.

Speaker 2:

Oh, Maverick, for sure Django Unchained has its moments, but it hasn't aged the best. It didn't age well when it came out.

Speaker 1:

No. And then the last two I'll call out here Spider-Man no Way Home.

Speaker 2:

Oh, no Way Home. Yeah, still a Marvel feel.

Speaker 1:

And Catch Me If you Can. That also doesn't belong here, I know.

Speaker 2:

I'm going to go. Maverick, would you rather watch Catch Me If you Can or Forrest Gump? I know you're a big Catch Me If you Can, guy, I'm pretty sure yeah.

Speaker 1:

I mean, yeah, they're both Tom Hanks films so it's pretty difficult, Catch Me If you Can has a lot of replay value it does I feel? Like you can only watch Forrest Gump so many times.

Speaker 2:

I also would not that I I mean, I have cable, but like Forrest Gump's, one of those films you can jump in at any time and just watch it from whatever moment it's at, where, like if Catch Me, if you Can is on like, well, I don't want to watch this, I want to watch it from the beginning, so yeah, yeah, that makes sense.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, definitely more iconic out of the two. But yeah, catch Me If you Can.

Speaker 2:

I uh, I really thoroughly enjoy, but yeah, that was our uh more like this game and, uh, I think, a success once again well, let me give you this, eric, as we wrap up on, obviously, from what has been an episode we were very excited for as we were approached. This is definitely one of our longer late to the parties, just because of how much we enjoyed ourselves. But I will give you since um, you haven't done it yet, but I have been doing a late to the party list on letterbox as well as international features. Right now I have top gun ranked 14th out of 26 late to the party films. It is behind bullet train and in front of edge of tomorrow as of right now. So again, I would definitely re-watch all three of those films actually.

Speaker 2:

So that's where that lands and it's fifth all time, because number one is goodfellas, number two is interstellar, number three is paddington 2. Number four is goodfellas. Number two is interstellar, number three is paddington two. Number four is the big sick, which you know is one of my favorite movies. Um, in the top gun, maverick, but again, that could switch upon seeing maverick in a theater setting. And it's right before mad max, fury road, which is another movie we watched this year. That's just awesome, so much fun. So that's where it sits right now on my late to the party list.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I need to put that together promptly, so keep reminding me. But yeah, phil, you are right, this episode a little bit longer, but we covered two whole films that we really, really enjoyed, and I definitely think this is just us bouncing back to where we needed to be after the Lego Ninjago episode, for sure.

Speaker 2:

I try to wipe that out of my mind Again. So many downloads. Where are you Lego Ninjago fans? We didn't hear from any of you at all.

Speaker 1:

I don't think they want to be heard from, to be honest.

Speaker 2:

That might be it. Yeah, I guess it was our most downloaded episode in July. Granted, it's the oldest episode in July, so there's still time for that to even out. But, guys, I just I don't understand you Again. More of you need to go watch Ultraman Rising for the love of God, but yeah, really fun. Yeah, almost coming up on an hour in terms of just recording recording time. So imagine what happens when we watch all three godfathers and if we don't like them yeah, I just think of that I just think of that.

Speaker 2:

Um, peter griffin from family guys, like now that we're about to meet our demise. I just want to get this out there I did not care for the godfather I do.

Speaker 1:

I do look forward to our version of that potentially.

Speaker 2:

It insists upon itself. What does that even mean, oh God. But yeah, I'm really glad we watched these. We will be seeded for Top Gun 3. Glenn Powell, which I assume is what it will be called. They're going to shift actually to where Glenn Powell is actually Goose's biological son.

Speaker 1:

They do like a test.

Speaker 2:

Or they're brothers or something, something like that. But yeah, eric, anything else you want to mention about either one of these films before we wrap up, what was a very, very fun episode, shout out to Tom Cruise in 1986, top Gun, again gayest film I think I've ever seen, or at least the gayest film I've seen in a very long, long time they undid a lot of that gayness in Maverick, which is disappointing again, could have made it a 4.5, but here's hoping. Top Gun 3. Romance between Rooster and Hangman let's do it.

Speaker 1:

I'm saying sign me up alright, yeah, no, I have nothing else to add here. I am pleasantly surprised and excited that we talked this long and at length. We had been holding off on talking about it, which is why we started a podcast, so you should probably watch other episodes, listen and watch other episodes that Phil will talk to now.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, if you want to listen to us talk about Lego Ninjago, for whatever reason, or anything else, here in the podcast, you'll find everything you need in a nice little package called the Linktree link. In the show notes of this episode You'll find a link to all the rest of our content. We release episodes every Wednesday and we talk about a various number of topics. The month of August is pretty stacked and hopefully, as opposed to the month of July, we'll go pretty positively. There were mixed opinions and experiences in the month of July. August should be.

Speaker 2:

We're off to a really, really good start. Make sure to follow us on social media, the most important places being Instagram, tiktok, our growing Discord page, as well as Twitch, where we stream every Thursday. And if you want to support the show, you can do a couple of things. You can head to our YouTube page, leave a like, subscribe, turn alerts on all of that stuff, and that's all very, very helpful. And you can go to Apple Podcasts, spotify, wherever you are listening, and leave us a five-star review. But if you find yourself wanting to have a few extra perks, maybe see some behind the scenes stuff as to how all of this craziness comes together, eric will let you know how you can do all that.

Speaker 1:

Yeah. So of course there's a couple of different ways you can support us on the free side of things, but if you want to financially support us, you can do that directly through our Buzzsprout page or I recommend you go to our patreon site, where we give behind the scenes and early access to episodes like this one if you subscribe and shout out to our patrons cory, briar, stefan and t3 kato. Did you guys know that cory is actually a patron? You should check out all of his work and we did an episode with him on the creator spotlight. We also had him on for what did I miss? Friend of the show. He's a great photographer and friend. Corey patron. I didn't forget this time.

Speaker 2:

Briar's gonna be so pissed like hey, I haven't ever gotten any of this we got a shot on there.

Speaker 1:

He never got forgotten about, so that was that's true.

Speaker 1:

We've never forgotten about Briar, never will Big difference, but if you join our Patreon, we probably won't forget about you. So please join as soon as you can. We'd love the support, but the free stuff always helps. The likes, the comments, the shares, all of the above truly appreciated. With that being said, my name is Mr Eric Almighty, that is my co-host, phil the Filipino, and please don't forget, we release new episodes every Wednesday on the podcast, with bonus content on platforms like TikTok and Twitch, and all you got to do is wait for it.
