What Did I Miss? (August 2024 Bonus Episode)

August 30, 2024

We are back with a sizzling new episode of What Did I Miss, joined by Andrew from Your Friendly Neighborhood Gamers and Sid aka Caught Red Headed. We kick off our August bonus episode with unfiltered laughs and unpredictable twists. Andrew keeps the vibes relaxed while we all navigate the wild pop culture landscape of this past month, and Sid, despite her nerves, dives right into the fray. Plus, who can resist a playful Jeopardy game that adds an extra layer of excitement?

Feeling weary of Disney's never-ending sequels and remakes? You're not alone. We dig deep into the fatigue surrounding sequels like Frozen 3 and Toy Story 5 and lament the lack of fresh content despite hits like Elemental and Encanto. Our conversation takes a turn towards Marvel’s overused multiverse plots and the return of familiar faces like Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, questioning if these moves are more about grabbing attention than storytelling. Sid and Andrew share their unique perspectives on dealing with leaks in the gaming world, emphasizing the frustration and disappointment they bring to dedicated fans.

To wrap things up, we shift our focus to the latest trends in manga and anime, spotlighting Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia, and their commitment to timely conclusions. We discuss the lasting appeal of games like Hi-Fi Rush and end the episode with a fiercely competitive trivia challenge featuring video games and emo music from the early 2000s. It's a nostalgic ride filled with heated debates, hearty laughs, and thoughtful insights, making this episode a must-listen for pop culture enthusiasts.

Speaker 1:

Welcome to your go-to source for entertainment. Wait for it Gaming, wait for it Anime PLUS ULTRA. Mr Eric Almighty and Phil the Filipino yeah, they've got you covered and all you gotta do is wait for it.

Speaker 2:

Podcast hey everyone, welcome back to the way forward podcast. I am your co-host, phil smith, aka phil the filipino, and joining us, as always is joining me as always is your other co-host, mr Eric Almighty Eric, august 2024. What did I miss? This will be the 10th consecutive what did I miss? So it is going pretty swimmingly. For the most part, this has been a fun iteration of this series, not only because, you know, I think we've just revamped it to the point where we got the formula down, but also because we get to bring in some friends and Eric. For those of you that are not, it's going to be up to Eric whether or not he puts it on social media or not, but Eric no longer knows who guests are going into. What Did I Miss? So it's going to be fun going forward to see how this goes. And Eric we brought these two guests together for a very specific reason. I think it's going to be a whole lot of fun and very chaotic. So maybe I've made a maybe I've made a huge mistake.

Speaker 3:

Very much so. I think, if the pre-show on Patreon told us anything, madness is going to ensue here today, and that's really what we've come to expect in this iteration of what did I miss, and I think third time's a charm, phil. I think at this point we've got a solid foundation for this series, and it's always one we walk away having a lot of fun on, which is what we could say about both of our guests that have been on the podcast before. So, kicking things off, let's welcome back Andrew from your Friendly Neighborhood, gamers, who, of course, has been on the show many of times. Andrew, how are you doing and how are you feeling? Jumping into the recap we're about to do for?

Speaker 1:

August. Hello gentlemen, Pleasure to be here. You keep talking about all this chaos, so I think I'm going to keep things as cool and level and chill as possible in this episode, just so that your intro is as inaccurate as possible.

Speaker 3:

Okay, well, that's fair, but I do feel like once we get to the fourth, spin that wheel.

Speaker 1:

We'll see how you act oh yeah, the spin the wheel, like there's something about it. I just can't do it correctly.

Speaker 3:

So you're, you're probably right no, you're definitely gonna, just can't get it down can it all, and he's gonna make it much harder than it needs to be. So that's why I'm hoping sid will be the person that we look to to calm everything down for real in those tough moments. But Comrade Headed, of course, on our Creator Spotlight episode was so much fun and I'm so excited to see her back. How are you doing? Are you excited to jump into this tonight?

Speaker 4:

Yeah, thrilled actually. Hello, hello, Glad to be back, though Definitely glad to be back, though definitely glad to be back.

Speaker 3:

Still nervous, but glad no, that's exactly why I asked that, because I was like are we still? Are we still here or are you a pro? I guess we're still here, okay no, we're still here.

Speaker 4:

It'll be like that probably forever. Oh okay, so crippling anxiety got it, oh yeah, all the time, all the time never leaves got it.

Speaker 3:

So our fifth guest of the show joining us in crippling anxiety, Phil. I think it's going to be a great one.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, going to be a lot of fun. So for any of you that are brand new to this, to the Wait Forward podcast maybe you're coming from Andrew or Sid's audience you picked a hell of an episode because this is our most unstructured and just kind of go with the flow episode that we do. It is a bonus episode that we do every single month, of course, as you can see in the title, called what Did I Miss, in which we will go over pop culture stories from the previous month and just kind of discuss them. I'm going to get this out of the way now. You know we always try to record this as late as possible to coincide with, you know, the release date and, of course, last month last month, eric, we recorded with our friends and two days later Robert Downey Jr announces he's coming back to Marvel. So that was fantastic.

Speaker 2:

I don't think we're gonna cover that today. I'm not sure. Maybe Eric uh selected that. Okay, I don't think he did, uh. So that's just the nature of this. We are recording on Monday, august 26th, and that means something crazy is gonna happen between now and Friday when this episode comes out. So that's the nature of the game and sometimes it just goes that way.

Speaker 2:

This is an episode that we suggest watching on YouTube. When it comes to the game, as far as all the stories, you can definitely listen on your favorite podcasting site, but when it comes to the game a little bit later, when we play Jeopardy, it's very much encouraged to watch on our YouTube page, so that way you can kind of follow along with the questions. But either way, we appreciate you checking us out. So, eric, I'm passing it off to you, man, because this is your part, this is your time to shine. I have given Eric the most chaotic and stressful part of this entire episode, even though this was my idea to bring him back. But he's been lumped with this responsibility and you know I'm just going to let him take the reins from here.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, yeah. So of course we've got each of us have come prepared with a story and to determine the order in which we're going to divulge that information to the audience. Would it be easy to do? Rock paper, scissors, or just I don't know someone volunteer like an adult, like a normal functioning adult?

Speaker 3:

Sure, but Phil, as we do every episode, is going to pull up the wheel and on this wheel, we must chant the saying to get the wheel wheel to spin. Uh, in fact, the saying is spin that wheel. So in order for us to do that all together consistently, uh, concisely, while we're remote recording, I'm gonna count down three, two, one and in that same cadence, we're gonna say spin that wheel. So in just a moment, we're all gonna be off mute. We're going to say spin that wheel. So in just a moment we're all going to be off mute, we're all going to say spin that wheel. After I have counted three, two, one. Are there any questions by any chance? Any questions or concerns on how this is about to go? Because each time we do this, it's a nightmare. So that's why we're doing this.

Speaker 2:

No, I feel like last month was probably our best month yet.

Speaker 4:

It might have been.

Speaker 2:

Just to let our current guests know that's what they're up against. We're coming off the top tier, so we want to improve upon that every single month from here on out, as we continue to do this.

Speaker 3:

That message is for you specifically, specifically, andrew, because I have a feeling.

Speaker 1:

You may sabotage this one so just I mean, what's the incentive here? Like, you guys want this to get better and better, but like, why do I?

Speaker 3:

you were at the holiday special, you saw how that went I don't think I don't think you should make that harder than it needs to be, that's all.

Speaker 2:

We're coming up on the time where we find out whether or not we're invited.

Speaker 3:

That's going to be wild, all right. So, sid, I know this doesn't help with the anxiety, but I will yell at you if you mess this up. So we're going to come off mute and we're going to count it down. I'm going to count it down. We're all going to come off mute and we're going to count it down. I'm going to count it down. We're all going to say it. So, starting now, three, two, one. Spin that wheel. That was very good. There you go.

Speaker 2:

That was probably the best one to date. That was pretty solid.

Speaker 3:

Oh, please don't Please don't be the first guy.

Speaker 2:

All right, pretty solid. Oh, please don't. Please, don't be the first guy dude. Alright, we're kicking it off with Eric. Let's remove all instances. You're gone. Stop sharing, alright, eric.

Speaker 4:

And while he shares his story Phil you can update your browser. What's the problem?

Speaker 1:

with going first.

Speaker 4:

Why do you not want to go first? Isn't this fun?

Speaker 3:

You're not having fun, no because then I have to literally be nervous that I'm going to pick one of your stories. So I'm going to go with the clusterfuck of stories that I think you guys wouldn't have picked just one, and that is talking about pretty much everything that got released at D23. So I'll. Was that Phil's story? Was that Phil? Was that your story?

Speaker 1:

Okay, I think that was his entire personality. He just vanished. He's gone.

Speaker 3:

Well, I hope you have a backup. You being the one that I fuck over honestly makes me feel less bad. But yeah, I'm literally just gonna run down everything on D23 that happened at D23 this month, because it's a lot and it does kind of touch on the Robert Downey Jr news because we didn't get a chance to cover it last month, but that has kind of maybe made its way through and maybe old news at this point. So, with that being said, there's a couple of things more than a couple of things that were announced at D23. And I'm curious if we have any thoughts across the board. First and foremost, toy Story 5. Why I'm not sure, but we're getting one. Apparently it's going to be the toys dealing with the digital age, the tablets, the phones, technology. We also got our first look at the live-action Stitch in the live-action CGI Lilo and Stitch. Snow White finally got a trailer. I know we're all excited to see that as we are in the MCU for Agatha all along.

Speaker 3:

There's a lot of news in the Star Wars world about the Acolyte getting canceled, but a new TV show called Skeleton Crew looks kind of like Space Goonies. Very curious how people are reacting to that. And of course, we're littered with sequels as we continue on Frozen 3, incredibles 3, in addition to that, toy Story news, inside Out's getting a spinoff, avatar, fire and Ash is coming out next December Phil's favorite film franchise. So a lot of things have come out, in addition to the fact that the Russo brothers are coming back to direct the Avengers movies for Marvel and Robert Downey Jr coming out as Dr Doom. So, with all that being said, and that only scratches the surface of what was announced this past month, I'm very curious and, phil, I'll let you go first, since this was your story what, from this month's news, from a Disney standpoint, really got your attention? Because again, they've got their hands in everything and I'm sure there's at least one story there that you wanted to highlight.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, well, first and foremost, you didn't mention the movie where somebody inhabits the mind of a beaver and infiltrates that, which is actually just Beaver Avatar, when you break it down. Hello.

Speaker 3:

The audience has spoken. We don't want original content.

Speaker 2:

We, no, we do no. If anything, you should be banging the drum on this because of elemental, just like I banged the drum because of encanto and all these other original movies I've been banging the drum on elemental and that's what I'm saying, so you should be mad about this, so you should be upset about this too I'm furious but I have to embrace it.

Speaker 2:

Well, not only is Frozen 3, not only was that announced, but it's also announced that they broke up the last movie into two movies. So now that's going to be Frozen 3 and Frozen 4. So that's going to be awful. Incredibles 3, for those of you that don't know, I hate the Incredibles series, so I'm not excited for that whatsoever. Toy Story 5, the argument obviously can be made that it should have ended at 3. I enjoyed 4 more than most people, but it has not aged very well. But I'm not sure why. That's a thing. I think. Really the only things that we were really excited about, eric, would probably be the Hercules musical coming to West End in London, greatest Showman finally being turned into a stage play, and there was one more. I think that I'm forgetting, I believe, but maybe those are the main two.

Speaker 3:

There was so much news.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so those were the two things that I was genuinely excited about, but everything else that I saw, you know, it's fine. Moana 2, I mean I love that movie, I'm going to see it, but, like again, that's something that doesn't need to exist. Don't really have too much to say about the Lilo and Stitch live action. I mean, at least the Stitch looks fine as far as like a CGI Stitch, but other than that, you know, it's kind of just. We're just going through the motions here with Disney. Like you said, eric, we're just not going to get anything original anymore. Zootopia 2, does that really need to be a thing? No, that should probably. I think. Wasn't that supposed to be a show at first? And they're also turning that into a movie, just like Moana.

Speaker 3:

Just like Moana was a show and then they turned it into the movie.

Speaker 2:

yeah, so it seems like they're because they panic. They hit the panic button after, after, even though Elemental made money, like Eric points out all the time. Elemental made money, obviously, uh, encanto did very, very well, but because in the movies like Turning Red, which I enjoyed, soul, also a very good movie and then what was the other one that they released in that time frame, eric of, like the, uh.

Speaker 2:

Luca, oh Luca. Also Luca didn't do too well, even though that's a solid movie. So now they're hitting the panic button and they're just going all in on. You know, sequels only. So it is what it is.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, and throwing that over to you, andrew. Like you know, with the Disney news it's a lot to follow. You may not necessarily be interested in every avenue, whether it's the classic Disney cartoons, star Wars or even Marvel, but Disney obviously kind of pivoting with the success of Inside Out 2 this year breaking a billion, deadpool and Wolverine breaking a billion, so they're seeing a lot of that IP and nostalgia out there. So I'm curious, andrew, was there anything from D23 or Disney's kind of news cycle this month that caught your attention? And if not, what's kind of kept you away from that news circuit? Because at this point if you don't like even a little bit of Disney, I could see people checking out completely.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I definitely think I'm starting to feel some fatigue from the Disney properties. The only thing that really broke into like my feeds out of all this was definitely the Robert Downey being cast as Dr Doom. However, sitting here listening to you talk, I can't wait to watch Frozen 3 150 times when my kids are just watching it nonstop, because that's what we've done with the first two. But yeah, I've kind of checked out of pretty much all of the TV and movies and and things like that from. There's just similar to what happened with Marvel when they started putting every like everything got a show, everything was and it was all interconnected.

Speaker 1:

You had to keep up with all of it for the movies to make as much sense as possible and it just it got to the point where I was like I'm tired of keeping up with all of this and keeping up with all of it for very little payoff, like I've actually just last night watched um avengers end game again and I was like man marvel really was amazing what happened, because the stuff they've put out since then has just been nowhere near that good. So for me I've gone like very casual mode in the like disney tv and movies and if something comes across my feed that was announced here, I'll be like, oh yeah, it's kind of interesting, like maybe, maybe somebody I know mentioned that they're making another frozen and I was like, oh cool, but I I definitely didn't like check in and tune into this as it was happening, like I would do with some of the gaming shows.

Speaker 3:

Which makes a lot of sense, and I think you know this part of it like being outgrown as well, like I know for me. I definitely have outgrown Star Wars for what it's trying to be right now and I feel like that old man beating my hands to the drum and just saying like it's not like how it used to be and I don't love. I don't love that feeling. Uh, sid, what is your relationship when it comes to Disney and any of those properties? Uh, and was there anything from the news cycle that kind of caught your attention this month, popped up on your, on your algorithm or feeds?

Speaker 4:

So, as you were going through some of the things that that I guess they had talked about or whatever, or came out with information-wise, I was like, oh yeah, I actually did end up hearing about all this stuff and, honestly, if I have anything to say about it, it's all negative. It's all negative. I don't have anything really positive to say. And it's not even just because it's not original content. I think it's just like everything that they are doing is Most everything they're doing is pretty tired. The Toy Story one kind of got me, though, because wasn't like I don't even remember really because it's been so long Wasn't the last movie about? Like, oh, you just got to let things go sometimes and move on, and it's like why the fuck are we back here again? Like what is going on? I don't understand. So that one really bothers me a bit, especially like, you know, being younger and growing up with it, I could deal with like having three, four movies, but, you know, coming back for a fifth after we already said let's just go on beyond. This is ridiculous.

Speaker 4:

I also continually forget that Marvel has anything to do with Disney anymore. So, um, I completely forgot about that. That's probably like some okay news, because I mean, I personally like, really like Robert Downey Jr, but anyway, that's another story. I don't know about him coming back for that role necessarily, because he just always will be Iron man to me, but I'm not upset to see him again. I can't. I can't say that I will be. So that's pretty cool. I wouldn't say I'm excited about it or anything, though. In general Disney stuff does not make me excited. Most of their IPs and anything like that I don't care about it, like including the sorry to say the Star Wars and everything as well. I really don't give a shit, yeah.

Speaker 3:

No, that makes a ton of sense. I think that's where a lot of us are starting to get to. I mean, there's still a lot to appreciate. Uh, the robert downey jr news was definitely a shocker, phil, but uh, there was kind of like rumblings of that happening and I think where we have landed is that it just feels like a full-on panic button from marvel. Uh, they especially with the scrapping of a lot of different projects and the redirection after everything that happened with Jonathan Majors as Kang, they needed some type of good publicity and goodwill towards Marvel, because you know, andrew, you haven't missed much since Endgame. There's been a couple of highlights, but even Deadpool and Wolverine. I've expressed this to Phil the more I step away from that movie, the less I like it, and it's because it feels a little too attention-grabby. It feels like it's trying too hard.

Speaker 2:

You upset Sid. You better address that.

Speaker 4:

I'm sorry. I am a little upset. I didn't know that you had qualms with this movie. I loved it.

Speaker 3:

Okay, it wasn't the best movie ever?

Speaker 4:

No, did I have some problems with it that were a little nitpicky? Absolutely, but I thought it was great. Okay, that's all I had to say.

Speaker 3:

For me. I think a lot of people think that it's great because there's just been a lot of mediocrity around it when it comes to the MCU. There's also the fact that Hugh Jackman is fantastic. He is fantastic in this film, carries it Ryan Reynolds. You're either over the stick or you're not over it. I'm not over it quite yet. So all the Deadpool stuff, like I really really liked, but the movie just, especially when it comes to the cameo, and just the complete lack of regard for just even a simplistic plot and just basic storyline purposes to stick within those those areas of reality, it just again isn't that much fun and I think it speaks more to the overarching tiredness of the multiverse. So, sid, I know you kind of. I don't know if you're keeping up. Yeah, andrew, stepped away a little bit from it. I don't know if you're keeping up with every film, but like me and phil have watched every film. I think at this point, right, phil, we haven't really given up yet and in this phase four, this multiverse I watched the Orleans, I'll watch anything.

Speaker 2:

Yeah Well, that's actually that's actually troublesome.

Speaker 3:

But I think, multiverse wise, I'm just kind of tired of the trope. So by the time we got to Deadpool and Wolverine it was kind of working against me for that reason.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, that's fair. I can say that I'm pretty tired of the multiverse thing as well. I think it is very, very tired at this point. I think maybe about the first couple like five times I was hearing about movies with it or shows with it in it. I was pretty over it as well. So I can understand that.

Speaker 4:

I suppose the reason that I even acted outright in the first place is just because, like I thought it was a movie that like I could sit back and kind of just let it entertain me. And there aren't really many movies that I do that with because I didn't go into it. Like really I oh my gosh, I'm sorry I also didn't watch all of the movies. Like I don't think I've watched every single movie from anything to do with Marvel at all, but I've definitely seen most of them. I don't know. I guess what I'm getting at is it just like I never really sit back and like let a lot of movies just entertain me without really thinking about it. But if I really try to pick apart source material or just like look a little bit deeper into it in general, I probably would have some issues with it as well.

Speaker 3:

And it's kind of funny because I gave this movie a three out of five at the end of the day, so like I don't objectively hate the movie, so I totally get like if you loved it and I think, like as a casual viewer, it has a lot to offer. Uh, but yeah, Phil, I feel, Andrew, I think the superhero trope has been, uh has been, something that's been getting exhausting and, just like some of you mentioned, with Disney, Star Wars and now Marvel that's where I'm getting at specifically with Marvel content I just I don't know how much longer I want to keep up with it honestly.

Speaker 1:

Well, mcu used to make like there were some misses, obviously Iron man 2, stuff like that, thor 2, but they made like just really solid movies that also ended up connecting together and had like a really awesome climax in endgame. I've watched all the movies in this most recent phase. I think I've watched them all once and they're just not good. Movies like ant-man, quantumania, what was that that was. And then the, the thor, love and thunder. It was like let's just double down on taiko itd and screaming goats and so like arguably two of their worst films ever.

Speaker 3:

Ever yeah, within like a year of each other or like in the same year, I think, actually.

Speaker 1:

So yeah so they're just not making great movies either.

Speaker 1:

Like I loved spider-man part of that was just my love for the character, but I thought they handled that really well and that was like the beginning of the multiverse.

Speaker 1:

But it just seems kind of like everything since then has just I'll sit through these movies and just the magic is gone and I'm not entertained and it's not fun. And the cgi is awful and it's just like what happened to the biggest property on the planet that we all loved like two years ago, and now it's been longer than that. But it's just, yeah, it just feels like a fall from grace and yeah, I think the the robert downey thing and then, like the russo brothers coming back, it very much feels like them trying to pivot back into already like nostalgia and wait. We can do it again, we can. We'll just bring all nostalgia and wait. We can do it again, we can. We'll just bring all those people back and we'll do it again. And it's like I w I really hope that the Dr Doom stuff is good, cause he's a really cool villain, but I don't know. It feels like they're starting to behave more like a justice league and less like the Avengers.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and I'll always bang the drum for Shang-Chi and Guardians of the Galaxy 3. I think those are definitely excellent movies and of course, like you said, spider-man.

Speaker 1:

Those were the exceptions. Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 2:

Here's the thing I also think is happening is we're going elsewhere for our not even necessarily just superhero, but team up stuff Like Legend of Vox, machina I talk about all the time. That is a good team, team of characters, invincible. The Boys, like. We're getting this kind of content elsewhere and it's being done very well. Now the Boys I know recently has been a little bit up and down, but we're getting that type of content elsewhere and it's also not being shoved down our throats. We have to wait for it a little bit. So that's where they are in terms of that.

Speaker 2:

I mean, when you're talking about we're not even talking about, you know, haven't even mentioned about them not casting like a romantic actor for for Dr Doom, that's. That's a whole other thing that other people can cover. But I mean between the Russos and Robert Downey Jr, you're talking about like half a billion dollars and there's no more uh evidence that there's a panic button is being hit than spending half a billion dollars on three people. So that's really all you have to point to. So I know we went back a little bit at the end of july, but again it was too big of news to like just ignore yeah, and I'm sure disney appreciates that being my story and not them trying to screw over that widower because they signed up for Disney Plus.

Speaker 2:

We didn't even cover that one.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, wild story, wild story. If you have Disney Plus, don't die on Disney properties.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, make sure you cancel your subscription before you get to go to the parks.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, but that was my story for the month of August or stories, so I got a nice little bucket fill and I really did pick that so we wouldn't have the longest ever like ending part of recapping like honorable mentions, that's all, that's fair.

Speaker 2:

That's fair. I did have backup, so it's okay. But, eric, you know, as punishment I'm going to hand it back over to you so we can do this again.

Speaker 3:

Well, listen, first time was the charm, so I feel like we can just jump right into this. You guys know we're going to do three, two, one and in that same cadence we're going to say spin that wheel to the best of our ability. I'm going to mess this up.

Speaker 4:

No, don't mess it up.

Speaker 3:

So let's do it. I'm going to count down three, two, one. Spin that wheel. Okay, man, two for two we're doing, good, we're doing two for two let's see, of course just I, just every time, dude, I don't know, maybe we should just stop spinning the wheel. Uh, I tell you that every week and you make me do this every week no I don't even remember what my stories are anymore.

Speaker 2:

Oh gosh, all right. Well, I'm going to start off with a. Well, my story is a little bit of a bummer. This came out a couple of weeks ago that full episodes of Arcane Season 2 had been appearing online following Netflix anime leaks. Full episodes of Arcane Season 2 have appeared online just a day after Netflix appears to have suffered a major security breach, which saw a slew of fall anime published as well. Five episodes of the hotly anticipated animated series appeared online ahead of its November premiere date and, following yesterday's stream of leaked episodes of Dantadon and Terminator, zero leaked as well. Like these shows, arcane Season 2's leaked episodes feature burnt-in timestamps and four internal use watermarks and annotations for music and sound effects. Ign has reached out to Netflix for comment. The leak obviously comes as a major blow for League of Legends fans and creators, as season one has been praised as one of the best video game adaptations of all time. That's kind of just the basic of the base of it. Some of this news also dropped Shout out to our patron Briar, who also brought to our attention about, you know, some of the anime leaks, such as Dantanon and some others. So it's kind of a bummer that this stuff kind of keeps happening.

Speaker 2:

Obviously, eric, you know you and I are have been waiting for Arcane. When was that? We were going to like LA, like three years ago, four years ago, when we first watched Arcane. And I literally go back, even though it is a very violent show and very depressing show, it's kind of my comfort show where I put it on in the background when I'm like doing other things, even though it's like very sad and very explicit. But I just love those characters and I love that world and I don't play the game. So like that's all I get from them. So, sid, as our resident League of Legends fan, did any of this come through your like Eric mentioned algorithm? Like Eric mentioned Algorithm? Did you? You know, did you have any inkling of? Maybe I'll check out these unfinished episodes of Arcane Season 2? But just talk about that. And you know also if you're a fan of the show yourself and you know kind of your reaction to some of these big name shows and anime leaking out into the internet, because people just you know it kind of sucks sometimes.

Speaker 4:

I. I agree that it sucks, but first let me go ahead and point out no one is a fan of League of Legends. There's not a single fan of League of Legends out there. We are all just in a choke hold. Okay, there's no fans here, but if you are a fan of Arcane, that's a different story. That being said, I still, unfortunately, am one of those people that I have not watched arcane. I know how good it is and I know very, very much about the characters. I know, stop, don't. I will one day, maybe, maybe, but I love I okay it's. It's hard for me to describe. We're pivoting.

Speaker 3:

No hold on. We are watching Arcane all weekend at the Horsney Hotel.

Speaker 2:

This is an Arcane stream now.

Speaker 4:

Okay, so I I'll watch it eventually. Anyway, I'm very sad about it in general, though, because, like, I don't know, I think leaks are ridiculous. I just just wait, you know, wait till it's finished. Especially, it's not even finished and people are leaking it. That's really sad, because it's like not even giving the material like respect. It's just very disrespectful to it, let alone to the people that are working on it and stuff, like do not want to wait for the finished product.

Speaker 4:

It's the same thing I think we might have even talked about this on the podcast we did together last time is like, or or somebody anyway, um, that people don't respect, like when it takes a little bit longer to make a final product, and I don't understand why we want to rush something and make it come out faster, when it's going to be like less good when it comes out faster, or when it's leaked, like this. So, yeah, I I don't I don't have anything in particular to say exactly about that. I definitely didn't look into any of the leaks myself, not even just because I'm not particularly interested in Arcane, necessarily, but I just I think it's really disrespectful and I try to like avoid that kind of stuff at all costs, because I just don't want to be a part of the problem in any way, shape or form.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, for sure. And, andrew, you know, obviously, in the gaming environment. You know this is gaming, adjacent, of course, with it being arcane, but you know these happen all the time in terms of finding out about projects before we're supposed to, characters that are supposed to be in games or cameos or anything like that. So what did you hear about this? You know, I think we all can agree that these streaming companies are getting out of hand, but when we're talking about the product, you know the properties that we love, we always want to respect the. You know the voice actors, the animators and all of that. So, like, when stuff like this happens, no matter what the uh, you know, no matter what the um specific like outlet it is, it's always kind of a bummer yeah, speaking to the show itself, I think it's incredible.

Speaker 1:

I've also been very excited about season two, but I'm not going to go seek out unfinished episodes because I have a bunch of finished shows that I haven't watched yet that people are always telling me I should go check out, and so I haven't even watched those. I'm not going to go watch one that's unfinished. But yeah, the leaks and stuff, I don't know, man, if it's just that we're more tuned into it, because we're like kind of deep in the trenches of this like industry, because it feels like in gaming they've kind of ramped up as well. I remember, you know, there's the big insomniac leak, there's gta 6. Obviously there was the massive xbox, like their whole five-year plan or whatever leaked, and I did look at that one just because I thought it was like an interesting kind of peek behind the curtain into their business side and they've already proven with that that like some of the stuff that was leaked has changed and like that wasn't the most up-to-date, accurate content with some of their announcements and stuff.

Speaker 1:

But as far as just like leaking things early like this, yeah, I agree with Sid that it's the whole mentality of rushing something and then getting a subpar product doesn't make any sense, especially when we're drowning in movies, games, tv, like there's plenty of content to consume without leaking, and rushing stuff that's not ready yet, like let it be ready, let's enjoy it when it gets here, and that way it can be the best that it can be. So I will definitely be checking out arcane season two when it's done, because I think it's probably Some of the best animation that I've ever seen. It did kind of the spider verse thing when it was like One of a kind, and that alone Is worth checking out. But then it just really has great characters and story to back it up as well. And I'm not a fan of League of Legends I've never played it.

Speaker 2:

So I managed to avoid that curse, thankfully, but I do enjoy the show yeah, think about watching one of these leaked episodes that had and having like no music, like music is such an important part of the first season and you're just watching like some silent fight scene play out and see some major spoiler.

Speaker 1:

Uh speaking of makes me think about those music videos where they like remove the music and it's just like their shoes squeaking and like the strings like clanking because they don't actually have it plugged in. Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2:

So, speaking of leaks, I threw this to Eric last because Eric, famously, when the last of us part two was on its way to come out, looked up some leaks on his end, because he just can't control himself. So I have not asked Eric since this happened if he looked into this, not only when it comes to arcade, but anything else, obviously with animates a little bit different. You can just read the manga. But, eric, you behaving over there, what's going on, man?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I'm staying off. I'm staying off of, you know, the Twitter, the Twitter, the Twitter as they call it these days. I, yeah, I, I'm doing OK, I'm staying away from it. The Last of Us Listen, that was one of those things and I'm glad you brought that up because that's like the good and it's like the good and bad of leaks. Like the good, like calling back to Deadpool, that was a great leak to be able to see, to get that movie going and like back then, like, like that was unheard of to be able to see something like that, uh, in that type of form, I would say the last of us, though, like that was, there was so much discourse around that, and I do believe that is part of the bad when it comes to leaks.

Speaker 3:

It just completely ruins an experience, and I don't want to say it impacted my experience, cause I personally love the to say it impacted my experience, because I personally love the Last of Us Part II. I know we've talked about that at length, about how we all feel about that game, but I think that it does such a disservice to so many people who want to experience that story. So all that to say, I think for maybe movies, it's not nearly as bad as it would be for, like, a game or a TV show. So it's really just unfortunate because, again, I can't imagine you would want to spend the time to sit down to watch something unfinished for that length of time with that much story behind it. It just doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to me why someone would do that, other than the obvious malicious intent in which it was delivered to the world obvious malicious intent in which it was delivered to the world.

Speaker 2:

Imagine going to meet Ella Parnell next week at, or next month at, Ocala Comic-Con and being like hey, we loved the six episodes of Arcane that we saw on a leaked version of the show. I'm sure she would absolutely love hearing that.

Speaker 3:

Have you seen the?

Speaker 4:

abridged version. I feel like someone is actually going to say that to her though, oh, they 100% will. I know that somebody's going to say that to her.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, they absolutely will. So, yeah, that's a bummer, eric, proud of you when it comes now as far as like going forward now when it comes to Marvel stuff, do whatever you want. We already talked about who gives a shit anymore. We kind of know what's happening anyway. But yeah, that was my story, one of my backup stories, because you know what Eric did.

Speaker 3:

So, eric, we got two people left here. You backed it up with a bummer and then you said it's your comfort show and I watched all three of us go like brother, ugh, oh no.

Speaker 2:

Listen, I understand, I understand, I understand.

Speaker 3:

I just said it so pridefully.

Speaker 2:

I'm a deeply disturbed individual. Maybe I'll watch that tomorrow.

Speaker 3:

Actually, it hasn't even seen the show and she was like, oh yeah, all right, you guys know the drill at this point. Could we again just flip a coin? We could do that. But no, we're going to do the wheel and I'm going to count down and we're going to do it. So, three, two, one, spin that wheel. Great job, guys.

Speaker 2:

On a roll, on a roll.

Speaker 3:

And we have. It's me I'm going to just settle in.

Speaker 1:

Saving the best for last.

Speaker 4:

We'll see about that.

Speaker 2:

All right, Sid. What did we miss in August 2024?

Speaker 4:

Okay. Well, I don't know how much I understood the assignment here, but as very recent, very recently happened God, I don't know if I should say it uh, I feel like it's a big spoiler, but I really want to talk about it though.

Speaker 2:

So okay, we have a spoiler coming up for those of you that are listening it's not, it's not.

Speaker 4:

It's not a spoiler, spoiler, but four. So it's for j oh, is it about the manga?

Speaker 3:

All right, so I know Phil definitely doesn't care. Andrew probably is going to tune it out.

Speaker 4:

I'm not actually going to say spoilers, though, while they talk about JJK, so it has recently been said by the writer of JJK himself. I cannot recall his name right now because you know blinking Gigi. Of course, yes, but it will be ending in four chapters, so the whole everything will be over here soon. Apparently, the tentative end date is September 29th, and I'm just I'm really, I'm really excited about it, because I've been following this and, like I don't read a lot of manga anymore, um, because I just don't really have time, so this one was one of the ones that kind of got me back into reading it, along with chainsaw man, which, honestly, I that was my second story, if, for whatever reason, this got, you know, talked about sort of kind of second story, but um, yeah, I'm just, I'm excited, because everything I I think. What I'm most excited about, though, is that this seems to be a trend and I want to know what you guys think about this too, because you guys talk about anime quite a lot but it seems to be a trend that anime and manga are actually ending in like a reasonable amount of time lately. And I'm excited to see that, though, because, like as much as I loved Naruto, I guess, in general, shippuden ended when it was supposed to. I feel like them continuing it with Boruto was such a flop and they should not have done that.

Speaker 4:

But then now we have things, and I think maybe it kind of kicked off with Demon Slayer potentially ending at like a reasonable amount of time telling the story that needed to be told without overtelling or putting some extra stuff in there that didn't need to be in there. And then so now we have jjk. That's ending in a reasonable amount of time. They're telling the story that needs to be told, which actually that's one of his quotes is that he can only tell, he can only end it, um, the way he wants to. So that's great.

Speaker 4:

I'm also thinking and I don't remember if I've actually heard anything about this, but I'm also thinking that Chainsaw man is going to end in a reasonable amount of time as well and not end up overtelling and, you know, make it. And honestly, this even kind of ties into what you were talking about at first, eric, about D23. In my own opinion, because we just keep having like more and more from all of these stories that some of us even grew up with as small kids it's like we don't need any more at this point, like we're ready for it to just be done, I don't know. So I guess that's kind of what I wanted to talk about. It was definitely more JJK focused, but definitely wanted to tie that into like a trend. Oh yeah, and then also, how could I forget my hero? So yeah, there's my hero ending in a reasonable amount of time.

Speaker 3:

Absolutely yeah. And then you did understand the assignment. That was good. And on top of that you pivoted to an additional question for our other two guests who may not necessarily be reading manga. Phil says he reads manga, owns manga. Have I ever seen him physically read it? No, no, never have. When?

Speaker 4:

you have manga. You can't possibly open it. You have to read it on your app. You don't open the books.

Speaker 2:

That damages them oh yeah, I want to know. I want physical media. This isn't manga, but the rest wait, that's not, that's not it's just getting smaller and smaller.

Speaker 3:

No, I want physical, sure you do. I want physical media. Anyway, go want physical, sure you do.

Speaker 2:

I want physical medium. Anyway, go ahead, Eric.

Speaker 3:

Sure, you do no. So I think it's uh, I think it's awesome. It's really a conversation piece because when it comes to uh manga and obviously anime and extension of that, we are starting to see that and I think that's a great thing. For anime. I mean, obviously I'm going to have to bring up one piece, cause you brought up Naruto.

Speaker 3:

The other heavy hitters, big 3, like Bleach One Piece in there as well is always going on and I think it's telling that they're doing a remake of that for a different audience to consume it a little differently, because it did fall into the trap that a lot of shounen mangas do and eventually animes trap that a lot of shonen uh mangas do and eventually animes, which is they've got to keep selling those chapters and they've got to keep publishing it week to week. So those big hitters would carry a company like shonen jump for years, literal years, decades, and I don't think that's the case anymore and I think you bring up a good point Like Demon Slayer is a huge example of this, and what they're about to do in the movie space now, in addition to what they've done with the anime, I think is going to be pretty iconic and special. So I think that's extremely interesting. Following along with JJK, I'm almost caught up, but I do know what happens in the latest chapter. Crazy stuff going on. It's going to be. It's going to be a great time.

Speaker 3:

Did you get spoiled? No, but I mean we knew it was going to happen. So, like I mean it was either going to happen or not and I had already like made my peace with it and then with my hero, that ending my hero felt like it was kind of going the route that old shonen would used to, which is it was going to tell a story spanning years and I think, to its detriment, it is ending early. I I like that it's not going on too long, but for the story they actually told and there's a lot to go with my hero, I could bitch and moan about my hero but at the end of the day I love that series, uh, with all my heart.

Speaker 3:

But I think every every manga going forward doesn't have to live up to the hype of is this going to be a decade long series? Now they can actually say and say and say, look at it and say within a decade I can close this story, sell a lot of manga, make a lot of money, make a great story and everybody's happy because Shonen Jump right now I mean I go on my app all the time and I'm eating good. There are a lot of great stories, a lot of great series and it seems like each one has the potential to be the big hitter that in the past it used to be very rare for it to hit that big. But Phil, again, I know you pretend to read manga. But Phil, again I know you pretend to read manga.

Speaker 2:

What is your reaction to this news? It's great to hear, you know, my kind of not disdain disdain is too harsh of a word, but I'm not a JJK fan. But I am a fan of properties ending when they are supposed to. And it's actually very fitting that this story came up because it ties into one of my obviously biggest fandoms. Ted Lasso is coming back for a season four. And it doesn't need to come back for a season four unless it's some sort of spinoff.

Speaker 2:

And you know I have talked in length with you know, guests here on the show. I am happy where that show ended. Ted's journey is over and I was kind of a little torn about the news. Obviously I want to see those characters back, but like when you have something that you, you, you had a start date and an end date in mind and you were like you, you sat with that and just be happy with it. So I I really like that. Those you know that they're going that route because um, don't stop trying to milk it. Like you said, not everything has to be this 10 plus year epic, um, if you have a good story to tell, tell that story and dip out. You know what I mean.

Speaker 3:

So I'm hoping uh, phil, what about arcane? Yeah, arcane two two seasons.

Speaker 2:

We're getting two seasons. You can watch six episodes right now on pirate bay and you can. You can get in and out and you don't have to. They're gonna tell that story and that's going to be it. So, yeah, it's that ties into. You know, I wish that so many more of these, these properties, would take note of what a lot of anime seem to be doing, as well as what Ted Lasso initially said they were going to do, which Bill Lawrence said it was going to be three seasons and that's it. And here we go. What's the show that I watched earlier this year, shogun? Shogun has no more material to pull from, so why are they doing a season two? So it doesn't make any sense. All these you know, all these executives just get greedy when they have something that you know makes them money and hopefully that doesn't go over to some of these more popular anime. Uh, that are, you know, going on right now. Tell your story and get out and andrew, how are?

Speaker 3:

how are you doing over there? I know this probably all went over your head, but from a story perspective, how do you feel about things kind of finishing up in a nice neat package?

Speaker 1:

well, yeah, generally speaking.

Speaker 1:

Like look at the way people talk about breaking bad versus the walking dead or sons of anarchy or these shows that were just like yeah, just forced to keep going because they were so popular and weren't allowed to end when they should have. And then, speaking as like kind of a anime outsider and definitely a manga outsider, one of the things that makes that so it seems like such a like a form of entertainment that's so hard to get into is because you hear things like one piece is you know a billion episodes or whatever, and so if they're starting to head towards the trend of no, you can get this whole experience in like a few books or a few seasons or whatever. I think that'll be really helpful for bringing new people just into anime and manga in general.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, that's a great point and, sid, I think we're feeling that on this end, just as fans of manga and as anime, because it's getting a lot easier to recommend a three, four, five season show compared to and again, I give Phil shit all the time, but I understand why nobody wants to jump on the One Piece journey. I'm at the beginning of it, loving it, but extremely, extremely upset about this pacing. It is an absolute problem, but I'm having such a blast, but it took me literal decades to make that choice myself. So, sid, again, I think that's a great thing in general and I think I'm finding it easier to recommend anime and manga. I think it's probably the same for you as well.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, definitely. Also, I'm really thrilled that they're actually going to be remaking one piece, because I have heard also numerous times about one piece from so many people and that I need to watch it and it's I'm missing out if I don't, so I'm just really ready for that condensed version as well. No, if they know what are you shaking your head for? It's fine phil.

Speaker 3:

Oh okay, no, phil, we talked about this the other day. Phil will just decide he will never do something, and those things include things like ever watching One Piece. Ever watching Game of Thrones for non-sitcom reasons, like he watched the last episode as a troll, yeah, I know, how it? Ends Exactly so. Phil makes a decision on something and, honestly, heaven, hell and earth could not move it.

Speaker 2:

I started re-watching.

Speaker 3:

Lost. Great yeah, was that before or after the like ten shitty movies you watched this?

Speaker 1:

year. I was going to say he'll watch Black Adam over and over.

Speaker 2:

But oh man, we got to finish that next time at the next Super Braggart Bros.

Speaker 3:

We don't have to finish that, we never finished it?

Speaker 2:

We do not, and then we'll start Flash, all right.

Speaker 3:

Well, on a serious note, yeah, sid, I think, if they do that right, I think it's going to bring in a whole new wave of fans, because, again, I love these characters, I love this world, I love this setting, but I just cannot and I understand it I cannot get through this pacing.

Speaker 2:

I have a question. It's a huge ask. I have a question. It's a huge ask. I have a question for Sid and Eric. Is there an anime that's on right now that has gone on too long, that people have acknowledged this should have ended a while ago. Is there a series? Is it my Hero?

Speaker 3:

It might be my Hero Sid what are you thinking?

Speaker 4:

I can't think of anything off the top of my head besides maybe my Hero potentially, but even then I I guess I don't know. I didn't necessarily feel like it went on too long per se. I think I just kind of had issues with the pacing in general, which I don't know. I really hated that, like, a lot of what we saw was like in their first year, and I think that's really ridiculous. I think it would have made a lot more sense in general for the story, for them to space it out for all their high school years, but that's my biggest qualm with it. Uh, I guess in general, though it has. How many years has it been? This came out like what? 2018 or something, 2016?

Speaker 3:

I don't know, I was still living in dallas.

Speaker 3:

It has been a while to me so that was like 2017, so that, yeah, it was a long time ago and it just again, sid, that's definitely my biggest gripe with it is that I think it started off like a traditional shounen, and time-wise it's ending like one of the newer ones, but like story-wise it just doesn't make sense, because we really haven't gotten anywhere with these characters. There'll be a big jump at the end and then it'll be over. It feels like there's a lot of years that we could have explored there. But yeah, 2016 is what I'm quickly searching up here.

Speaker 4:

Uh, literally almost a decade ago actually, now that I'm thinking about it though and I did mention that it is good that it's ending now, and I still feel that way, because, like, they just really just need to go ahead and just be done with it. But I think when I first started getting into it myself, I really did think it was going to be one of the ones that ended up going for like 10-15 years. So it definitely you're absolutely right about how the way it started out is it definitely paced itself that way, and I wonder if they really had the intentions of doing that. Um, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. But, yeah, maybe they're seeing, like the new trends and they're just like this is not going to be a long-term thing. People are over this already, cause the fandom is like imploding anyway, so they're probably just like let's be done with it.

Speaker 2:

We gotta sit through one more shitty movie too.

Speaker 3:

Hmm, okay, for the record, the first two movies are good, the third one is pretty bad and I have no interest to see the fourth one, but that's, and the movies have made the show worse. So there is that. There is that for several different reasons, but we're not going to get into a my Hero Hate Fest. I do love that series.

Speaker 4:

I was just about to ask for more, but you know what? That's fine, let's move on.

Speaker 3:

No, not if you want to get out of here by 10. Not if you got a hard stop. If you don't got a hard stop anymore, we can keep going.

Speaker 4:

But if not, I think we'll have things to talk about in September then. Huh, Exactly.

Speaker 3:

Yes, as we're watching season one of Arcane at the Horsey Hotel.

Speaker 2:

So, that being said, we are now going to Andrew doesn't know what that means, so he's very confused.

Speaker 1:

Honestly, I prefer that none of the audience knows and it's just left. That's the mental image that I got in my head was probably you know what probably messed up probably not far off, but let's, let's jump into, uh, our last story.

Speaker 3:

Uh, before we do that, you'll notice the wheel is up for some reason, because because?

Speaker 3:

well, there is reason, because we're uncivilized apes who have to go back to the dawn of time, when things were much simpler, and we have to now spin the wheel one final time to determine who the last person that we already know is going last will be. That's why I'm going to count down and we are going to say these final words for the final time. I'm going to count down and we are going to say these final words for the final time. I'm going to count down Three, two, one Rotate that spear.

Speaker 3:

I knew it. I knew you were going to wait until the last one. You just couldn't let us have it. This was our best episode to date, and you just had to ruin it.

Speaker 1:

I would argue I made it better.

Speaker 2:

I'm not against rotate that sphere, change things up a little bit.

Speaker 1:

We just need an actual sphere, like three dimensional.

Speaker 3:

I don't like it.

Speaker 2:

Andrew. Last but not least, what did we miss in August 2024?

Speaker 1:

The studio that made Hi-Fi Rush was unceremoniously killed by Microsoft, but they were then brought back to life by the PUBG parent studio, apparently called Krafton. I probably had heard that before, but I didn't retain it. I probably had heard that before, but I didn't retain it. And so they bought Tango Gameworks and they have the rights to Hi-Fi Rush and they are apparently in a the way they describe it a sort of like healthy working relationship with Microsoft and Xbox to kind of transition the team and let them continue working on their IP and I just it's kind of a feel-good story had to balance out Phil and his dark comfort over there. But I just thought it was interesting for a few different reasons. One I'm excited about more Hi-Fi Rush.

Speaker 1:

I don't know if any of you guys played that game. I played it. I didn't finish it, but it it has a really awesome aesthetic and style to it, like it really just kind of captures that like saturday morning cartoon vibe perfectly, and then the gameplay, being like rhythm action, was just super unique and interesting. So I'm excited that they get potentially a second crack at that. And then the other part of the story that I you know that they were acquired by the PUBG publisher. I thought was also kind of interesting, like I don't know if they did that because they thought that it would just they would just come out of this looking like the good guys, like they did, or if they had like a genuine interest in Hi-Fi rush for some reason, like I don't know. So I just thought it was an interesting story, so that was why I brought it up today.

Speaker 2:

What you're saying is hi-fi rush battle royale. Is that what you want?

Speaker 1:

you know um, it might be one of the few battle royales I could be good at, like a rhythm-based battle royale.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, third person rhythm-based action battle royales I could be good at.

Speaker 1:

Like a rhythm based battle royale.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, third person rhythm based action battle royale sounds great they're trying to fight fortnite in battle royale, and then also that concert series, that fortnite festival. Yeah, fortnite festival.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, this is great. Um, I played a little bit of hi-fi rush as well. Did not play all the way through it, but it was, uh, certainly a bummer. I think this is actually one of the stories we talked about last month, eric, um, whenever, uh, whenever dylan was on, for, uh, what did I miss? Because when you see original games, original properties come out and had a lot of success high fire, rush was very popular and then on, serious and unceremoniously getting thrown out the window, essentially, um, now that they have a second life, that's great.

Speaker 2:

I don't know that I'll continue to play Hi-Fi Rush, but games like that need to exist in this space so we can continue to get original IPs. So I don't know if that means it says here and also in the article that I pulled up. Not sure what that means as far as some of the other existing game catalogs, like Evil Within, ghostwire Tokyo so Ghostwire Tokyo, also a game I didn't play, but like a really cool concept. So the fact that people are out there innovating is good, so hopefully that means good things for those other properties as well. But Hi-Fi Rush specifically deserved a second chance and, yeah, we'll see what happens with that. Sid, do you have Xbox Game Pass or have you ever played this game, in particular when it comes to Hi-Fi Rush?

Speaker 4:

No, I'd never even heard of it. It looks like I like the style. The art style looks very nice. Like it definitely grabs my attention, but other than that I've never even heard of it before now.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, for those of you that are not like Sid, who are not familiar with Hi-Fi Rush, it is a rhythm based action game, so you're encouraged to attack your enemies on beat and as long as you're keeping up the beat, you'll get higher combos, a better score and all of that. So, Eric, did you ever download Hi-Fi Rush on Game Pass? Because I know it came out like right around an Ocala Comic-Con or a Brick City Anime Festival right around then, because we worked with the voice actor for Hi-Fi Rush.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, we just talked about this topic in a way last month. When it comes to Game Pass, the fact that I have a full-on queue that I just don't know when I'm going to ever get to it. Hi-fi Rush is on that Play Next queue. When I will get to it I'm not sure, but I have always been interested in it because it looks great From a Metacritic perspective. The meta score is 87 and the user score is at 8.8.

Speaker 3:

So that's just a small glimpse into the many favorable reviews I've seen and heard about when it comes to that game. So I know it's in high regard. It definitely is one of those I wouldn't say hidden gems, but it is one that has kind of flown under the radar. You know, to Sid's point, not a game that I like actively hear being spoken about, but when I do hear people speak about it it's definitely in high praise, high regard. So yeah, it's just one of those games. Will I ever touch it, phil? If we're not doing an episode on it? Probably not. And as we've learned, if Phil doesn't want to do something he's not going to do it. So this would be a great example If he said in his brain never going to play this game.

Speaker 2:

Well then, I guess I played it.

Speaker 3:

No, I'm saying a game in general, Like if you don't want to play a game or you don't want to do an episode based off a game I recommended, hey, this Five Nights at Freddy's game that I'm playing is actually kind of fun. I get the appeal.

Speaker 2:

He's like I will never touch that ever. You asked me to play Five Nights at Freddy's. You asked me to do that.

Speaker 3:

I'm just saying, once you make up your mind, it's made. Just own it.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I don't want to play it. I am owning it because I don't want to play it which I'm curious, which Five Nights at Freddy's.

Speaker 3:

So my son's very big into it and they had it for free on PlayStation for Security Breach. So Security Breach pretty fun. Very laggy, but very fun.

Speaker 1:

Well, Eric, you can just bring me on the Hi-Fi Rush episode whenever you want to do it. I'll just kick Phil out of here. Here we go.

Speaker 3:

That works out.

Speaker 1:

No, but I can. He just said he didn't beat the game.

Speaker 2:

He's not going to beat it. He's got to play Witcher 3 again. He's not going to play Hi-Fi Rush.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, you're probably right, witcher 3. No, hi-fi. Yeah, you're probably right, you know witcher three. No hi-fi. Rush they. They just did a really good job of you. You mentioned, um, it being a rhythm action game and I think when people hear that they think, oh, I'm not good at either of those, I'm not going to play that. But it's so simplified and like you're rewarded for hitting, like doing your attacks on the beat, but it's not necessary to engage with the game. And then, like I said, they just captured the, the, the tone and the personality is great. It it's modern and smart, but it also kind of has that like nostalgic xbox 360 era of video game, like radio charm to it.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and then they had, like, trent resner do the music for at least some of the boss fights, so it's got a pretty awesome soundtrack too yeah, it's got excellent boss fights.

Speaker 2:

Um, voice acting is really really good. So, uh, yeah, if that means I don't know how the game ends, but if that means there's going to be more games existing in that space, then that's a that's a good thing for sure. So yeah on steam.

Speaker 4:

Has an alternate cat for what looks to, or an alternate skin for a cat, what looks to be a cat? I don't know. I said all kinds of words there, but uh, that has a name is 808 I think maybe I'll look into it. Yeah, it looks like bob from far away, but yeah 808 okay, we're gonna see a future stream future stream.

Speaker 3:

okay, all Okay, all right, there we go. I was going to say, bring it back to the original story with the PUBG developer. It will be interesting to see how they leverage that. I always kind of imagined PUBG being so envious and angry at how Fortnite stole the spotlight. I like to think of them just in the background figuring out how they're going to overcome the odds and take fortnight over. So I like to think this is the first step to that they have the art style.

Speaker 1:

Now they just have to make the game, but all of their like ips that they cross over with it's going to be kind of like multiverses, where it's just this weird like smorgasbord of characters that people don't really care about you know I always wanted to play bugs bunny in us in some sort of smash. Ultimate fighter I always wanted to see aria stark and lebron james duke it out thank god, space jam lebron specifically to not even like cool olympics lebron.

Speaker 2:

So, oh my god, all right. Well, those are our main stories for the month of August. We always take time before we transition to Jeopardy to see if anybody had any like stories that barely missed the cut. I'll go first here. Joker director Todd Phillips says that the Hulk Hogan biopic with Chris Hemsworth is no longer happening and, to quote the Iron Sheik good fuck, Hulk Hogan, so glad that is happening.

Speaker 2:

Uh, Jack Black and Paul Rudd are in talks to star in a new Anaconda movie, and if there's anything that I love, it is a stupid monster movie. So sign me the fuck up for Anaconda. That thing better be rated R and they better bring back Ice Cube. I swear to God, that's what I want to see. And then, yeah, the Ted Lasso thing I had already brought up. And then just taking a moment to recognize Rachel Lillis, of course, who passed away, the voice actor of Misty and Jessie from Pokemon. So just giving her her flowers for being a big part of all of our childhoods. But those were my main. Didn't make the cuts, Eric. What did you have? Hopefully you cut it down.

Speaker 3:

I did, I did and I don't know, sid Andrew, if you guys got any, this is totally optional, so I'm going to just run through a couple and if anybody has any thoughts, throw them out there. Phil, the Anaconda News was one of them. I wanted to hear your reaction and it went as expected. Uh, speaking of phil, uh, obviously gamestop is his whole life and game informer shut down after 33 years.

Speaker 3:

Uh, really, really sad bummer uh, don't know how it's still going, by the way, but really really sad nonetheless. Uh, in mcu news I thought this was interesting that james spader's ultron is returning for an upcoming Vision spinoff show. While I'm very tired of Marvel in general, I don't know what just happened, but while I'm very tired of Marvel in general, it is something I'm very excited to kind of see happen. Why is there a two? Okay, I'm not even going to get distracted. Look Back, which is the anticipated movie from chainsaw man's creator, has an october release date in the us. I really enjoyed what I saw in the short manga that I read and I'm excited to see it be adapted. And yeah, my final, uh, two stories. Chick-fil-a of all is launching its own streaming platform. Really nothing to talk about here.

Speaker 4:

What are you counting? I think he was counting your extra stories, oh, okay, yeah, I was also going to bring up Look Back as well, because you know me being obsessed with Chainsaw man. I'm, like you know, gunning for anything Fujimoto right now, so that was really exciting as well. But I didn't really have much to say on that topic besides being excited to see it in theaters, because I've really been enjoying watching anime movies in theaters, even if some of them are bad, my hero.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, well, listen, listen, Some can be good as good as others. And the last one is Secret Level. As good as others. And the last one is Secret Level, which, if anybody saw it, it's basically that huge project from the creators or the same studios Love, Death and Robots, which I've only casually checked out, but it's basically going to be. Each episode is going to be a short film dedicated to certain games, and some of those games include Sifu, Warhammer 40K, God of War, Dungeons and Dragons, Pac-Man, Mega man and, for some reason, Concord. You had the opportunity to do Helldivers and you did fucking Concord, Concord really, but anyway that was my last story, phillip.

Speaker 3:

I don't need you to keep track, I'm going to give you one for each game that you mentioned.

Speaker 2:

That's crazy.

Speaker 3:

Okay, that's it. That's all I had. That was it.

Speaker 2:

Andrew, did you have any that you considered throwing out here?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, obviously there was Gamescom, so we got a lot of video game announcements a new Mafia, new Borderlands. We got the release date for Marvel Rivals, so just some news coming out of there. Um, there's a lord of the rings anime coming to theaters. That actually looks pretty interesting. I'm kind of excited. That's an interesting intersection of like hobbies and fandoms right there. So the war of the rohirum that looks pretty cool. Um, the upcoming xbox indiana jones game is going to playstation next year and it's got all of the capital g gamers in a tizzy about what this means for exclusivity and is it even worth buying an xbox anymore and where do I go to get my xbox tattoo removed and all those kind of things. And the last one is that Dragon Age, the Veil Guard, got a release date and it is actually coming out this year on Halloween, which I'm excited. I hope this game is good, you know.

Speaker 2:

Bioware they have a lot to prove. I really hope it's good.

Speaker 1:

But it was one of those that we were very skeptical on, because it could have very much gone the way of Avowed where oh nope, it's actually coming early next year. So I wanted to shout that one out. Throw that out there as well.

Speaker 3:

I'm really hoping that that will keep everybody from not counterpicking Hollow Knight in our league, because I'm still holding onto it with hope. I'm running out of time, dude. I've wanted to drop it for weeks.

Speaker 1:

What are you talking about? I can't bring myself to do it. When was the last time you looked at the league?

Speaker 3:

It was counterpicked.

Speaker 1:

By your very own brother.

Speaker 3:

You knew damn well, stefan, oh my god, I checked it last weekend, but probably before everything processed. Are you fucking kidding me? We'll talk about this later. All right, I'm so mad, oh my God.

Speaker 1:

Hold on to that energy as we move into the game so we can keep you off your game. Yep, yep, yep.

Speaker 3:

He's mad that Outlaws is going to cost him points. That's fucking crazy, dude.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that game is looking a little rough from what we've seen, uh so far, but um, yeah, uh, you missed the most important one, uh, andrew, with mars attracts, which is a mars based um I saw you talking about that on stream, yeah, it's called. So you build a theme park on mars and game of the year 2025. That's what we're going to see.

Speaker 4:

So I don't know these simulation games have been hitting lately. It's all I'm going to say, see.

Speaker 2:

So yeah, super excited for a new Mafia, borderlands 4. They had to recoup, probably, and get the Gearbox name back in the good graces of fans. So we will see what happens. But, Eric, let's go ahead and transition to the game. So to our contestants that have never played before. Andrew, when you were last on, what did I miss? We were playing different games and now we've settled into a jeopardy role here. So you're going to see a qr code on screen, and let me know if this is large enough do I need to?

Speaker 1:

make it any bigger.

Speaker 2:

You can also make the screen bigger on your side if it's not already maximized. But I will make this a little bit larger. Minimize you guys and do that. Let me know. If anybody has any issues, you'll. Then who's Pumpkin?

Speaker 1:

I'm Pumpkin.

Speaker 2:

Okay, See how quickly he picked a character Eric.

Speaker 3:

Honestly, I forgot we even had to do anything.

Speaker 1:

It's pumpkin spice season.

Speaker 2:

That's true, that is true. So we got Andrew in.

Speaker 3:

Here we come.

Speaker 1:

I like how you recommend people come to the video version for this part of the show. But, like for us, we're just gonna be like looking down at our phones the whole time.

Speaker 2:

You should be able to see the questions up here as well, but uh yeah, um come look at the top of our heads.

Speaker 3:

There's just, there's just so many options just pick one be, pick one Be the onion.

Speaker 1:

Ogres are like onions.

Speaker 4:

No, he's right, there's so many options.

Speaker 2:

See, to be fair, I've never been on the opposite side of this selection screen. Who's Fox? I'm assuming it's Sid.

Speaker 4:

That's me.

Speaker 2:

Lobster. Eric picked the lobster. Okay, dylan picked a character last month named Dylan Dylan. That was crazy, so that worked out well, all right. I almost picked Raja. Okay, I'm just going to leave that there, I'm not going to touch. I'm not touching that one. You're not baiting me today, all right? So our categories for this month. We have anime awards. Oh boy.

Speaker 2:

For the players. It's Not a Phase and Pop culture mystery bag, which debuted last month with a twist. What's that twist? You'll find out when you select a question. There is a daily double that I probably won't work correctly, so I will go ahead and let you guys know when the daily double is. But other than that, just make sure that you you can buzz in as soon as you're able to on your phone, but just don't give me an answer until I've finished reading the question. So I always spin the wheel just on my end to decide who is going to go first. So let's see, nope, nope.

Speaker 3:

I don't think that's how that works so boom, let's see what happens here.

Speaker 2:

We didn't even say spin that wheel no, we don't spin that wheel for this one. This is mine. Wow, uh, damn, it come on let's go.

Speaker 1:

This feels wrong.

Speaker 2:

We know where eric is going to start uh which one. Do I do wait? Is this the right?

Speaker 4:

one. Why am I just celebrating that andrew didn't get it first?

Speaker 2:

wow because you know, it took long enough for there to be a little bit of be, a little bit of beef in here, so I'm glad.

Speaker 1:

I don't know where this beef came from.

Speaker 2:

I'm going to be honest, I'm hoping that this really wraps up. Reopening old wounds. Also, Eric likes to start off with 500. So just so you guys know, those are going to be wiped off the board pretty quickly, unless he decides that he doesn't know, he doesn't understand a specific category.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, yeah, so in, in, uh, in no surprise here. Anime awards for 500 cool.

Speaker 2:

This third year high school student and notable actress model took home the best girl award in 2019.

Speaker 4:

Sid, I think it was Maren maybe. Oh fuck, I don't know how this goes. I should have let somebody else go good effort there.

Speaker 3:

I would have said that, but Phil has no fucking clue what that show is, so I know he wouldn't have picked this also, I saw model and didn't even think about the actress part, so you know what fair third year high school student. Yeah, I'm not going to take a shot at this, not for negative 500. Andrew, you want to jump?

Speaker 1:

in here no.

Speaker 2:

All right, I also had to pull it up just to make sure, because this was the only one on here. I was like who the fuck is that character?

Speaker 3:

Oh, you didn't know.

Speaker 2:

Alright show, and here we go.

Speaker 3:

Oh my, she's an actress. Oh she is, she is an actress. Slash model.

Speaker 4:

No, that tracks.

Speaker 3:

I would not have guessed that Also.

Speaker 4:

Oh my god, 2019 was not two years ago, Jesus Christ.

Speaker 1:

No, there you go Well.

Speaker 2:

Sid, I credit you for putting out an answer on a $500 question.

Speaker 3:

I actually know that You're now in the hole. I know that anime and that character. That's a shame. Anime Awards 400.

Speaker 2:

This anime won the first ever Crunchyroll Anime of the Year in 2017 and is a sports anime about figure skating.

Speaker 3:

Oh, oh.

Speaker 2:

Oh, Eric.

Speaker 3:

Yuri on Ice. Oh man Damn it.

Speaker 4:

I almost said Ice.

Speaker 3:

Ice Yuri and I was like I don't know where I got that from, but that is wrong.

Speaker 2:

That's a way better name actually, so I'd probably watch it then. Eric, you're still on the board.

Speaker 3:

Anime Awards 300.

Speaker 2:

This anime features an extremely anxious and socially awkward aspiring rock star and won Best Slice of Life Anime this year, eric.

Speaker 3:

Boat to the Rock Just gonna collect the Infinity Stones here really quick, if y'all don't mind.

Speaker 2:

Eric.

Speaker 3:

You know what? Let's mix it up because I'm going to need some confidence boosters later. Let's do Pop Culture Mystery Bag for $500.

Speaker 2:

Oh, this 1999 horror indie classic, which grossed over $248 million worldwide, is considered one of the most successful independent films of all time on a budget of only $60,000. I'll give you bonus points for giving me your answer, as if you're actually a character in this film, sid.

Speaker 4:

I regret my decision.

Speaker 1:

So aggressive on the button.

Speaker 4:

Why did you do this on the 500? I'm going to back out, I'm backing out, I'm backing, I'm backing out, I'm backing, I'm taking my loss.

Speaker 3:

Do you want to just give these guess what you need?

Speaker 4:

Nope, nope, nope, nope.

Speaker 3:

Eric Andrew, that crippling anxiety dude showed up twice at 500. That's crazy. That is crazy.

Speaker 4:

I'm solidifying my position as a loser.

Speaker 2:

Sid, if you didn't want to play, I know you got to go, but if you didn't want to play, you could have just told us. Eric or Andrew. Any guesses?

Speaker 1:

No, I got nothing.

Speaker 3:

Horror, indie, classic, 1999. Budget is $60,000. I just can't pinpoint a 1999 film specifically, I'm just not in that genre.

Speaker 2:

I'm going to call it a year. We've got some time. It is the Blair Witch.

Speaker 1:

Project. Losing money is just so scary. I would not have guessed that. What would one of the kids I was thinking quarantine.

Speaker 4:

So okay, so okay, no one's going to believe me, but I'm saying it anyway. Okay, I did not initially think Blair Witch, because I ignored the 1999 part. And then I was like wait, hold up. Because I was thinking I actually had just watched Meat Canyon slash Papa Meat talk about this the other day when I was crafting, and he didn't talk about this. He talked about paranormal activity but then related it to Blair Witch. So I was like immediately in my head I was like, oh, paranormal activity. And that's when I was like I'm an idiot, it's 1999. And then as soon as I saw the tick hit negative a thousand, I was like shit.

Speaker 3:

Blair Witch Project, damn it. What would have been an acceptable character answer?

Speaker 2:

You answer the question in character as if you're in the Blair Witch.

Speaker 3:

So like how? What would be an acceptable response there?

Speaker 1:

Well, so like how what would be an acceptable response there. Well, we'll never know. I guess I should have.

Speaker 2:

Uh, I'm in the blair witch and I guess blair witch that wouldn't have been it eric uh you're bored I misunderstood the assignment.

Speaker 3:

Uh, didn't like that.

Speaker 2:

It's not a phase 500 this 2004 song by dashboard confessional was featured on the soundtrack for the film Spider-Man 2. Eric.

Speaker 3:

Vindicated. Is that what it is? Yes, I am selfish, I am wrong Swear I'm right, guys, you're letting Eric run away.

Speaker 2:

This is not looking good, Eric, you're bored still.

Speaker 4:

Andrew, you need to do this. I thought you said you were going to win this. This is up to you.

Speaker 1:

I'm holding strong at second place it's true For the players 500.

Speaker 3:

Just knock it out.

Speaker 2:

This PS4 feature, introduced in 2017, allows players to create and share their own custom games levels and experiences with the community.

Speaker 1:

Feature.

Speaker 3:

I waited to see if andrew would pause. He paused and I was like nope, no, not gonna, not gonna do this wait andrew dreams

Speaker 1:

there we go nice I almost said little big planet.

Speaker 2:

And then I was like no, that's a game, not a feature yeah, I always thought dreams was like its own game, but that's how it was worded as a specific feature.

Speaker 1:

They try to sell it as a game, but you can make games in it.

Speaker 2:

Andrew, you're bored.

Speaker 1:

Oh, I'm anything but bored. I guess we'll do For the Players for $400.

Speaker 2:

This character, played by Norman Reedus, serves as the protagonist of Death Stranding, tasked with reconnecting isolated cities in a post-apocalyptic world. Andrew.

Speaker 1:

Sam Porter Bridges.

Speaker 3:

Crazy. I saw Norman Reedus and almost clicked. And then I saw Death Stranding and I thought it was the name of the game, so I'm glad I didn't click that.

Speaker 1:

Norman Reedus and the Funky Fetus. We'll do for the players 300. What?

Speaker 2:

are the zombie characters referred to as in 2019's Days Gone Andrew.

Speaker 1:

Freakers.

Speaker 3:

Damn it. We're going to play that soon, Phil.

Speaker 1:

We just had to get in my category.

Speaker 2:

You're asking about anime and horror movies. Andrew.

Speaker 1:

We'll keep on going down for the Players 200.

Speaker 2:

This FPS was one of the flagship titles released alongside the PS4 in 2013. Andrew.

Speaker 1:

Killzone.

Speaker 2:

Give that to you. Thanks, killzone. Give that to you, thanks. All right, 100?.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, might as well.

Speaker 2:

All right. This 2015 PS4 exclusive is an action RPG set in a futuristic, dystopian world, with a focus on combat and exploration.

Speaker 1:

That's not vague at all. Futuristic world.

Speaker 3:

PlayStation exclusive.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that's the part that's.

Speaker 2:

All right, give me a couple more seconds. Anybody want to give it a go? It's only 100. Sid.

Speaker 3:

She said uh-uh.

Speaker 4:

I don't want to dig myself into more of a hole. I have no hope of winning but at least we can cap it at negative 1,000.

Speaker 3:

Oh no, phil knows I've made a comeback of this size you can do it no guesses.

Speaker 1:

I guess not.

Speaker 2:

No Blood pouring Wow.

Speaker 3:

Wait, go back. I feel like you should lose points on that one did you say futuristic?

Speaker 2:

that's what the description, that's what because?

Speaker 1:

bloodborne definitely came in my head and I was like, no, that is definitely like set in the past that's okay, that's okay still you're bored. I was thinking near, like, near automata based on that description, but that's not an exclusive. So All right. Well, that's painful, it's not a phase for 100.

Speaker 2:

This 2005 single from Fall Out Boy from the album from under the cork tree includes the iconic line I'm just a notch near bedpost, but you're just a line in the song, andrew. Sugar we're going down swinging. Yeah, there we go all right back to you we'll do. It's not a phase 200 this song by panic, of the disco known for its theatrical music video, includes the lyrics I chimed in with a haven't you people ever heard of closing? Closing the goddamn door, eric.

Speaker 3:

I write sins, not tragedies.

Speaker 4:

I think Sid's not trying, so you know how I told you guys that I'm not good at this. It's because I know every word in all of those songs. Could I tell you the name of it on the spot Absolutely, not, never, nine million years. I guarantee you the name of it on the spot Absolutely, not, never, nine million years.

Speaker 3:

I guarantee you Sid started at. Oh well, imagine, I'm just going to try to get there.

Speaker 4:

We were just playing like rock band. I shit you not two nights ago, and we were playing these songs. Could I tell you the names of them? No, no, I can't.

Speaker 1:

I miss Bloodborneborne.

Speaker 2:

It was my second favorite game of all time it's okay, eric over to you hey, it's not, a phase is going well, let's do it for 300 this festival featured bands such as my chemical romance, fallout boy and the used during its 2005 summer tour, which was pivotal for early 2000s, emo andrew the warp tour solid tour. All right, would you like to clear? Uh, clean out, it's not a face I would like to try okay, what is the name of this album and who is the band it's associated with? What the fuck, andrew?

Speaker 1:

uh, it-182, and it is. It's like no Pants, long Jacket or something like that.

Speaker 2:

Okay, well, okay.

Speaker 3:

I feel like naming the album and the band was already hard, so if he's close, I'm okay giving him the points.

Speaker 2:

I'll give you half.

Speaker 3:

Okay.

Speaker 2:

So I'm going to take away 200.

Speaker 3:

Maybe give 200 to Sid Take off your pants and jacket. Take off your pants and jacket. Okay, I'll give you half. Okay, so I'm going to take away 200. Maybe give 200 to Sam. Take off your jacket.

Speaker 1:

I was thinking of that short skirt, long jacket.

Speaker 3:

Okay, this is just y'all are just pitying me now. You're just pitying me. You're back in, we're encouraging you.

Speaker 2:

That was the suggestion of your opponents here.

Speaker 4:

Trust me, it's not that I'm not trying, my brain is just that frozen every time.

Speaker 2:

Andrew, back to you. Would you like anime awards or would you like to go with the unknown of what's happening here in pop culture mystery? We're gonna do mystery bag for 400, okay this easter egg character makes a hidden appearance in hercules as a pelt worn by hercules. I'll take hercules, I'll take points away from your opponents if you deliver your answer as Batman.

Speaker 4:

Sid, is it Scar?

Speaker 2:

Okay, well, you're not going to get the extra points.

Speaker 4:

I got one right. I don't even like Disney stuff.

Speaker 3:

She sounded like an anxious Batman. Yeah, it was Batman.

Speaker 4:

When he realized his parents were dead Is that what Batman sounded like?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, absolutely, he was like Mom Dad, is it?

Speaker 1:

Scar.

Speaker 2:

Is it? Are you dead, Alright, Sid? It is your board.

Speaker 4:

I don't want it. Can I pass?

Speaker 3:

No, that's the whole point of the game.

Speaker 2:

You can select anime awards. There's still two questions for anime awards.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I'll do 200. Anime awards 200.

Speaker 2:

This popular show in anime racked up three wins at the 2021 Anime Awards, including Anime of the Year, best Antagonist and Best Ending Sequence.

Speaker 4:

Bro what.

Speaker 2:

Three wins at the 2021 Anime Award won Anime of the Year, best Antagonist and Best Ending Sequence in 2021.

Speaker 4:

I don't think I'm right, but I'm going to say my Hero.

Speaker 2:

That's me be JJK Eric.

Speaker 3:

I'll just say JJK.

Speaker 1:

Pain down.

Speaker 2:

That's why I paused.

Speaker 3:

I was thinking it might have been. Demon Slayer, because Demon Slayer has one anime of the year, a couple times, I think, or they've had a couple, but yeah, okay.

Speaker 4:

I second guessed myself because I couldn't remember timing.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, 2021 feels like that was way too soon.

Speaker 1:

Those are the COVID years, so it's all just one long blur, oh blur.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, let's wrap up anime awards at 100 there.

Speaker 2:

This mind reader won the first ever must protect at all cost character award in 2023. Sid.

Speaker 4:

Anya Forger, that one I can tell you.

Speaker 2:

Easy. She's a back to back winner as well.

Speaker 4:

She won this year, that's 100, though it's meant to be easy.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Bloodborne. All right, sid, would you like?

Speaker 2:

100, 200, or 300 for Pop Culture. Mystery Bag.

Speaker 3:

With a twist the Daily Double's still out there.

Speaker 1:

What is the?

Speaker 3:

twist, oh the.

Speaker 2:

Daily Double was I forgot about it. The Daily Double. Andrew got it wrong. Well, it was the Blink-182 one. So, oh, okay.

Speaker 1:

So I should get the full points and then Sid gets the bonus. Sure, as long as Eric doesn't get any, what the hell.

Speaker 2:

I'm going to take two points away from Eric wow Sid, 100, 200 or 300 oh, I forgot, I was muted 200, I'm just talking to myself the phrase do you live under a rock literally applies to which sea dwelling Nickelodeon character. I'll give you bonus points for any quote by this character in their voice Sid.

Speaker 4:

No, it's Patrick.

Speaker 2:

Fucking perfect. I'm going to put you up to 500.

Speaker 3:

Why does he look like that? Because that's when he was like I love you.

Speaker 4:

I've never seen that man look like that. Oh my God, this is when he's trying to sell chocolate.

Speaker 2:

I have never seen that man look like that? Oh my God, that man when he's trying to sell chocolate.

Speaker 3:

Sid, we're going to send the clip to you with no context.

Speaker 4:

Just between now and Ocala.

Speaker 2:

All right, still, you're bored.

Speaker 4:

I guess I'll do 300.

Speaker 2:

Okay. In Avengers Endgame, the Avengers travel back in time to retrieve this object from 1970, new Jersey, where it's being held at a SHIELD facility. Bonus points to give me your answer as a disguised nerd attending Comic-Con who cannot believe you asked them such a dumb question, andrew.

Speaker 3:

Pym Particles 1970, new Jersey. Why am I blanking on this?

Speaker 2:

that. I mean, that is one of the things. That's not the answer we're looking for, andrew, so you weren't yeah it's the more obvious one see it, or Eric want to give it a shot, oh, Eric, this isn't right.

Speaker 3:

Is it the tesseract?

Speaker 2:

oh wow, okay I'll give you 100, for you sounded kind of annoyed really nervous there all right, eric, here we go. Pop culture mystery bag 100. What does leonardo dicaprio's character shout from the bow of the ship of the titanic? I'll give you bonus points for reciting the line as Arnold Schwarzenegger does he say I'm on top of the world? You just want to answer it like that, or do you want to give it another shot? I'm disappointed.

Speaker 1:

I don't need the bonus points he got it wrong anyway, though. Yeah, I didn't say it one to one yeah, that's. You know, I've never.

Speaker 2:

Ah, he got it wrong anyway, though yeah, I didn't say it one-to-one, yeah, that's you know, I've never seen that movie.

Speaker 1:

Okay, gosh.

Speaker 4:

That's okay, Wait what. You've never seen that movie.

Speaker 1:

Nope. It's three hours you really don't need to waste. I know how it ends, so.

Speaker 4:

You can just times two it Times, two it I'm going to give actually Eric and Sid.

Speaker 2:

$100, because Andrew didn't attempt to say it. For what?

Speaker 4:

So you can feel better about what you just did to me, because you guys didn't Making me lose this so early, because you want Eric to win.

Speaker 2:

Because Andrew didn't recite it as Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Speaker 3:

Arnold Schwarzenegger. Yeah, that was a missed opportunity. I'm going to reward everybody else.

Speaker 2:

All Alright, final factile so go ahead and enter wages you actually have on your phone and whenever you have your answer, text it to me. So just Andrew and Sid, send it to me on Discord Eric, you know how to do it so that way I can read out all the answers and there won't be a little bit of there won't be like a, I always bet everything, so so there is a chance that, if this is anybody's game because Eric will wager $2,100.

Speaker 1:

I don't.

Speaker 2:

I haven't put the question up yet, so just put in your. Your wager and then you send your answer in Discord to Phil yeah, the two of you will send in Discord, eric, dealer's choice for you. All. Right, here we go. Wages are in this. Generation 1 Gym Leader. Signature Pokemon is known for its powerful electric attacks and its connection to the electric type Pokemon of the Kanto region, so we're looking for the name of this Gym Leader.

Speaker 1:

I should not have bet at all.

Speaker 3:

From a strategic standpoint. Andrew, you really had no reason to do it Like I'm doing it to be a troll.

Speaker 4:

I'm sending it to you, right, Phil.

Speaker 1:

Yep.

Speaker 2:

You're sending it to me. No, don't send it to me. Give you guys a couple more seconds.

Speaker 3:

Eric, did I get an answer from you? Okay, I don't know what else to do. It's, it's, it's rough out here. What a fucking all right we have our answers.

Speaker 2:

Let's display wagers. Uh, eric bet it all, andrew bet it all and Sid also bet it all. So everybody bet it all, and this is how it goes.

Speaker 3:

Reveal answer Lieutenant Surge, which means my useless knowledge wins again on three answers.

Speaker 4:

Let's go Again that's all it took, because Eric couldn't be just a little, neither one of you, george wins again on three answers, let's go Again.

Speaker 2:

That's all it took, because Eric couldn't be just a little. Neither one of you could be just a little.

Speaker 4:

Isn't this how I won last time? I?

Speaker 3:

think so. I sent Electro Guy. What was your guess, Andrew? Electro Guy.

Speaker 2:

Brock.

Speaker 3:

I said Brock, you said Brock you know for a fact Brock doesn't have electric Pokemon.

Speaker 2:

I could only remember Brock and Misty, I do too, oy, all right, well, I'm floored, I'm floored.

Speaker 4:

That was such an easy question.

Speaker 3:

There we go. I thought you guys all had it bad. Lieutenant Surge, what the fuck yeah he.

Speaker 4:

He was a mean guy, though that was a mean dude, he's a war veteran.

Speaker 2:

He went through the Pokemon war, you know what?

Speaker 4:

Fair enough, that's true, I should show some respect.

Speaker 3:

I wasn't familiar with his game.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, no, I won't get it. I've covered it on an old episode of what's the thing I did about conspiracy theories? It's not important. Theluminati yeah, we, yeah, we've done a lot of content here. But, andrew Sid, thank you so much for joining us. Look at that. We're right on schedule for Sid's meeting that she has here in a moment, so thank you guys for allowing me to win again. Of course. Yeah, that's exactly what happened. So, sid, let's throw it over to you first.

Speaker 4:

Please let our audience know where they can find you and any projects that you are working on. Uh well, before we wrap up the episode, I forgot about this part. Um, the uh Instagram on underscore caught red headed, as all one word. Headed as in head. Uh, and then also Twitch caught underscore red headed. That's pretty much it.

Speaker 2:

Yep, and Andrew, what do you guys got cooking over at friendly neighborhood gamers for anybody that on this, uh, you know. And Andrew, what do you guys got cooking over at Friendly Neighborhood Gamers for anybody on this audience who hasn't caught you any of the previous times?

Speaker 1:

So you're Friendly Neighborhood Gamers. My sister just joined the crew as a full-time member so she'll be lending her voice to the discussions, bringing in some variety and some cozy games and indie knowledge that Dylan and I sorely lack. So it's nice to have her perspective. We recently did a game swap episode actually I think that came out today where we all made each other play a different game and then we came and talked about the experience. So my sister, aubrey, made us play Night in the Woods, I had Dylan and Aubrey play Sunset Overdrive and Dylan had us play the Dead Space remake. So I had to play two games that I probably otherwise would not have played. So it was a fun little experiment to kind of try different things, get outside your comfort zone a little bit. So that was fun. We're actually planning on blowing that out into a full month of episodes in November where we will dive a little bit deeper on the games that we've picked for the the swap um.

Speaker 1:

On YouTube we're trucking along with reviews and um mostly just like reviews. I did a preview on a indie roguelike game called Elsie. That went up not too long ago and I think our next upcoming video is a video that Aubrey's doing on Spiritfarer. And then I have a side project called the Parent's Guide to Gaming, where I create YouTube reviews and videos about games specifically targeted towards parents and like whether or not that game would be a good fit for their kids or if it's worth their money or if it's just like a piece of shovelware garbage kind of things. So like don't buy the bluey game, for example, and I haven't. I haven't posted anything over there in a couple of weeks, but I do have some scripts written and things in the works. I just have to actually sit down and knock them out. So if you're interested in any of that, go check out your friendly neighborhood gamers and the parents guide to gaming yep, everything you need is going to be in the show notes, per usual, of this episode.

Speaker 2:
